Ryan has made big progress on the barn deconstruction front. He got it completely down and after three trailer loads on a 104 degree day, it’s stacked up on our property ready for construction.
The plan is to pour a concrete foundation and then reassemble on the property. Although he won’t be reassembling it exactly as it was originally built. There were two layers of wood for each of the walls, floor and roofs. Not to mention that there were originally wooden partitions inside for separate rooms. None of that will be redone.
What this means is that there will be A LOT of barn wood to use on other projects. And I’m so excited about the potential that I could scream. So, I’ve been perusing the Interwebs in all my spare time (that’s pretty laughable, but I do like to surf the Web when I am feeding Henry and putting him to sleep).
Which reminds me, why didn’t anyone tell me that maternity leave wouldn’t allow me endless time to complete home and sewing projects?
Which reminds me, why didn’t anyone tell me that babies can’t help paint or clean or renovate or do dishes for a long time?
Anyhow … barn board.
The original plan for the excess boards was to eventually make a chicken coop and a playhouse. But those are long-term, large projects.
So, then I decided that we will really need a barn wood dining room table in the new house. Ryan concurred. But, again, this is a larger, long-term project. (We don’t need a new dining room table in our current home.
As you can see, we have enough projects to last us until we’re old and gray. Ryan’s thrilled. I’m thinking that a sign may be in my near future (if I can check some other projects off my list first).
What’s your favorite barn wood project? Which one would you start with?
The possibilities are endless! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with =)
I LOVE barn boards! One of those giant tables is definitely on my list as well!
Love that barn table and the “we do sorry’s” sign is adorable. good ideas!!
I love all of your ideas. We’re planning on making a similar table for our kitchen once things get a little less crazy around here. I love farmhouse tables. And I’m impressed with how productive you’ve been with a baby!
Wait- newborns don’t help with painting or dishes? Crap. Thanks for telling me ahead of time. 🙂
I love the headboard and the table. And the sign. And all of it really. If it were me I’d probably start with a small project first and then work my way up to something bigger.
I love the table and the flag.
ML gives you soooooo much time to get everything you want to accomplish 🙂
Give that little guy a hug for me.
Well I obviously concur that a barnwood table is an awesome addition to any home!
My table isn’t barnwood, but it looks very similar to the one you pictured and best yet my Dad and hubby built it!
I love the Americana flag, the bookshelf, and the planter most!
Maybe that doesn’t help since that most all the pictures you posted, oops 😉
JEALOUS! Want to host a barn wood party? I’ll come to Iowa, and we’ll make stuff with all of your barn wood. I’ll bring the nails.
Oooh, do the headboard! And then make me a queen size and drive it to WI for me!
ps – maternity leave does not equal time to get things done. FO SHO
My favs are the wooden headboard and the dining room table. Drool.
