Things are looking a little more pink around our house lately.
Yep. We’ve getting our home and our hearts ready for the newest addition to our family … a little girl arriving in about 6 weeks.
We are truly thrilled about this new addition. Henry is practically beside himself. And now that the nursery is (mostly) completed, I figured it was as good of time as any to share with the world.
So … surprise! We are having a baby girl next month!
The room was in quite a state before we got it cleaned up for baby. It had become a dumping ground for all the things that didn’t have home elsewhere when we moved into our home. But I think it came together beautifully in the end.
I wanted this room completed before baby came home. In Henry’s nursery, we had many of the pieces in place but still had to finish lots of projects after he came home. I just wanted to enjoy this room before our new baby arrives and not have a huge to-do list on my brain.
And now that it’s fairly complete, we’ve really been enjoying it. I often just hang out here after Henry goes to bed.
The room is modestly sized, but there’s plenty of room for the basic necessities. A crib, a dresser and a glider/recliner. (Sources at the bottom.)
The mom-cliner has already become one of my favorite spots. This is a downright luxury from the wooden rocker we had in Henry’s room.
And the little end table doubles as storage. (The top comes off.) I think it will be handy for stuffed animal storage.
Henry and I sorted through his books (and added a few new ones) to add to the baby’s collection.
I wanted to create a simple gallery wall above the chair, and have had fun collecting items to add. Many of the pieces are new, but the white frame is a lovely embroidery piece from my grandma (and our daughter’s namesake), which is extra special to me.
The clock should be handy for late-night feedings. Or, maybe it’s a bad idea to know what time it is? At any rate, I’ve held onto it for two years and this seemed like a good spot for it.
The curtains were one of the first purchases for the room – a steal of a deal for blackout curtains. This room gets tons of midday light, so darkening shades are a must. And the tassels basically closed the deal.
I liked the curtains so well that I used an extra panel to create a no-sew crib skirt. (I’ll share more details soon.)
Henry and I also created the flowers for the wall from Italian crepe paper. He wants to make even more, so a tutorial may be coming soon. For now, my back and fingers need a bit of a break.
The dresser was a local purchase – it has tons of room for all the sweetest little pink things. How can I keep myself from buying all the things? The answer – I cannot keep myself from buying all the things. (Sorry, Ryan.)
There’s also a great amount of storage in the closet – I’ll have to share soon, once I get it organized. (Maybe nesting will kick in soon?)
Until then, I’ll just keep up my super strict diet of DQ Pumpkin Pie blizzards and let her keep growing. Yep. The belly is getting too legit to quit.
Thanks so much to the incredible Sarah Sunstrom Photography for getting these photos of the nursery (and even a few of this momma looking large and awkward).
Here are a few of the sources for my favorite pieces (some affiliate links):
Recliner/Glider | Pillow (Target, not online) | Jenny Lind crib | Crib sheet | Chevron afghan (Ugly Duckling, local) | Tassel curtains and bedskirt | Flowers (DIY) | Dresser (Ugly Duckling, local) | Letterboard | Changing pad cover | “beautiful” mirror (Designs on the Blvd., local) | Dreamcatcher (Urban Farmhouse, local) | End table (Urban Farmhouse, local) | Strong, brave artwork (Urban Farmhouse, local) | Circle shelf and “L” (Hobby Lobby) | Mint station clock
