My poor sewing machine has been neglected lately, gathering dust in the closet.
But, I dusted her off to make this sweet minky blanket for my friend Kellie and her new addition. And it came together in less than an hour. (Forgive the wrinkles, I was in a rush to get it shipped off and should have ironed.)
Henry still sleeps with his minky blanket every night. So I was determined to create something that another baby may treasure. This one is made of 1 1/2 yards of quilting cotton and 1 1/2 yards of minky dot fabric.
To make, I just cut the fabric and minky backing to 44×44 inches. Using a bowl, I rounded the edges. Then, I just pinned it together and sewed around the edges (right sides facing). I left a turning hole and then I topstitched all the way around the edges.
The back is so soft, and the front has a great pop of pattern.
And I included this matching minky stuffed elephant. It was so soft that Henry didn’t want to give it up. But it was destined for baby Elijah. (I’m also sharing the details to make this little guy over at the Silhouette blog.)
I think the sewing machine was happy I came back. And I have a few other sewing projects on the horizon that I’m anxious to start. I don’t think my machine will be getting lonely.

So cute. A few of these are on my “to sew” list, as well as embellishing curtains with ribbon, a crib skirt, crib sheets, a cover for my glider ottoman, a runner for our dining room table, and probably a dozen more throw pillows. lol. The list keeps growing!

Sounds totally doable to me. 😉 Good luck!

Such a sweet, darling baby gift! The elephant is too dang cute. I love minky fabric. I haven’t sewn with it before, but Darcy is partial to it. She has a little minky bear and minky blanket that she LOVES. Perfect fabric for little ones to snuggle!

Henry is still partial to it. I’m thinking of making him a big one for his bed. Although, he’s pretty smitten with his “bank” made by you, too. So it may not be necessary.

As always, super cute Kim!
One thing to note, it’s probably best that you didn’t iron out the wrinkles in the cotton as I’ve been told that ironing the dog minky can take the dots out and it may become just flat minky. I’ve never tested this though, just trusted it and avoided messing up my cute dot minky 🙂
Kim Woodward says
You are correct. All the dots went away on the elephant because I wanted it pressed for the seams. I still like it, but the dots do go away. (Crazy, btw.)

I LOVE this fabric- such a sweet fun print for a little one. I used the same print (in flannel) when I lined a sleep sack for a friend of mine’s little guy a couple of years ago. <3

Very cute! I’ve missed this kind of project on your blog lately. (I’ve got to be honest, not having a Silhouette sort of makes me glaze over those posts.) But between sewing and the barn getting to close to moving into, well that’s just what I like!
Kim Woodward says
I totally understand! I’ve been doing a TON of Silhouette projects lately. 😉 I get a little stuck in a rut. But I do have a few sewing projects coming up – but probably not until after November when the barn is ready to go. Sigh. I just need a few (or a dozen) more hours in the day. =)

Yay, looking forward to it! If only 2yo’s made decent sewing assistants. Or movers. Or….

There were some technical difficulties over at the Sihouette blog, so it’s being pushed back. I’ll share the link when I have it.
Sorry!
