I like to spend too much time day-dreaming about how our new house will look when it’s all done. Like 10 years from now, when the stress and pressure of building is far behind us and there are no more projects and we are just bored and enjoying the fruits of our labor.
Hey. A girl can dream.
It’s been a while since I’ve given a house update. Not for lack of progress, I assure you. Ryan’s been working his tail off and hopes to begin plastering soon.
While I wait, I’ve been dreaming about the various rooms of the house. I thought I’d share some of the inspiration here.
First up – the dining room. This is basically an open space and bump-out between the kitchen and living room.
It’s about 11 feet wide, so not gigantic. But more than enough space for a large table and chairs.
This will be a hard-working space – where we’ll eat all of our meals, entertain, play games, and do crafts and projects together.
So, I immediately knew I wanted to have banquette seating in from of those beautiful large windows. (Seriously – the views out these windows are incredible – with wonderful sunset views.)
A banquette bench provides a lot of seating and also provides a great amount of storage space below. (I’m thinking it will be perfect for art supplies, office stuff and overflow. Plus, a bench takes up less real estate than chairs (with the space needed around them).
I’ve seen so many beautiful banquets that I’m smitten with … here are a few favorites.

Banquette at Christmas via The Wood Grain Cottage
Large banquette via Better Homes & Gardens
Window bench via Assortment
Window seat and shelves by House Updated (I love it all. Seriously – it’s perfection.)
And here are some other details I see coming together …
Arturo chandelier via Ballard Designs (I purchased in July for $250.) | Windsor chairs via Amazon | Pine farm table
So, just a little dining room dreaming for your hump day.

I dream about your house in progress all the time. Until I get my own banquette, I will lust after your soon-to-be one. Loving the plan! Been eyeing Windsor chairs; I think you just convinced me.

Can I ask where you found the farm table? Or do you have one already? We want one for our new house, too. I’ve been on the lookout for an older one but haven’t found any yet. Love the look you’re going for!

Banquette benches are pretty awesome and make such a difference in how to use the space. Love the inspiration.

Haha, when all the projects are done!
I can’t wait to see what you end up doing. The banquette seating will be great!

Love it!! I wanted a banquette, but scratched it on our first round of plans. It just wasn’t working with everything else that was going on. I still get sad about it, so I’m sure you’ll be in love with this decision when 10 years comes and you enjoy the fruits of your labor, etc, etc. 🙂

This is what dreams are made of! Love the banquette idea and bonus storage space (although I’m sure you’re done thinking about space saving storage ideas at this point!). I’m so excited for you and can’t wait until move in day.

Yes, you definitely need a banquette in your life! Or at least in your new house. 🙂 We love our window seat (thanks for sharing it!) and can’t recommend it to others enough. Cant’ wait to see what you do…

ooh, banquette–yes! I spent awhile one time trying to desperately to figure out a way to fit a banquette into my kitchen. I hadn’t even considered the dining room. Hmm….the chandelier would need to move, but that’s a thing people do, right? Hmm…..
