Last September, I debated colors for the exterior man door. It only took 11 months, but I finally decided and painted the door.
I’m a decider. Clearly.
I chose Behr Starless Night. Spoiler alert: I love it.
After installing the barn quilt, I thought a blue door was just the ticket. Gave the barn a little balance. I was afraid white would be too bright with the big garage door. Plus, it’s so dusty that it would get dirty. Black no longer made sense. So, navy it was. And Starless Night is a perfect navy blue, in my opinion.
Painting a door is pretty self-explanatory, right? It took two coats of paint (I used Behr Premium Plus Exterior Paint in a satin finish).
Another new update is the reclaimed brick entry. Ryan and my brother installed it from old paver bricks. (We have been holding onto these bricks for about four years. We discovered them buried in the yard at our current house.)
There weren’t enough to do a full walkway, but it makes a nice little landing.
Sometimes, it’s the little changes that make a great big impact.
This barn has come a long way, baby.
What do you think of the color?

Perfection. Your red, white and blue gets me gushing! And the brick is the icing on the cake, especially with the exposed lettering. It’s all coming together now.
Kim Woodward says
Thanks so much! And I totally took your advice on the red trim around the big garage door and the door, and I love it!

Are those Purington pavers? We have a tiny pile in our backyard, if you interested in adding to anywhere else around the barn!
Kim Woodward says
That’s exactly what these are. I would be interested, but I better ask my laborer.
Felicity says
Love the blue. Just curious why you left the trim around the door’s window white. It seems like it would look better if it was navy blue too.
Kim Woodward says
I was actually trying to play off the white windows above. I sort of like the pop of white against the blue. But thanks so much for commenting and for your input. I appreciate it.
Kim Woodward says
I also meant to mention: The grates on the door window are inside the window, so there’s no painting them.

It looks amazing!!

Thanks, Rachel. It’s been a (seemingly) long road. But, there’s light at the end of this tunnel. I think. I hope.

That’s actually the same blue I painted our dining room in Alabama! I loved it so much I’m recreating that dining room here in Illinois if I ever get around to that room. It really is a great navy blue.
Kim Woodward says
This would be an awesome color for an interior room. My friend also used part of my paint to paint an old hutch and it looks amazing, too.

I’ve decided your barn project is the most exciting undertaking in blogland. I totally want to live in a barn now. I was watching the Tiny documentary and thought of you. I can’t wait until the inside is done. Love the door color obviously!

Oh my gosh, we just watched Tiny two nights ago. I was actually drafting a post about it.
