There once was a hutch that had been lovingly handcrafted by my father and handed down to Ryan and I to house our television.
This hutch holds a special place in my heart, because my Papa Bear made it. (Although my painting of it nearly did the aforementioned father in. “For goodness sakes, this piece is made out of nice OAK.”)
But since we have a built-in unit in our new house, the hutch had to find a new place to live in our new crib. I decided it would be perfect in the extra bedroom.
Ryan wasn’t so sure it would fit up the stairs. But, I would hear nothing of it.
So, the process of moving this large and very heavy piece of furniture into the second level of our new home began.
(And, as you can see, I did not paint the top. That wouldn’t have been a very efficient use of my time. I was too busy adding thought bubbles to photos to entertain myself.)
And that is how the hutch found a new home.
And it lived happily ever after… in our lovely new guest bedroom.
(And as an aside, Ryan said that we would be selling the hutch with the house. Yeah, right.)

I love the bubble commentary. That’s about what I imagine Stephen is thinking whenever I ask him to help me move something… As for the Americana guest room – I love it! Especially that school room desk by the bed! (Big surprise!)

Your guest room is adorable – and I’m so impressed that your dad made the hutch!
Carrie @ Hazardous Design says
Hahaha! That is exactly the way things go in my house! Though with my luck someone would get it up the stairs and it wouldn’t fit in the designated spot.

It looks perfect in its new home! Great work getting that hutch in place you guys. We have a couch at the end of our looong hallway that Stephen says we’re selling with the house too. ๐

Bahahaaha thought bubble making clearly outweigh painting on the priority list. Don’t dads know that? And look at my room! It’s already looking so comfy and cozy. Love the red with the wall color. And I know you know, but you totally lucked out in the hub AND daddy-o dept. You should call them Kim’s minions. And get them matching shirts.

Don’t you just love being right!? (About getting it upstairs, and about painting!)

Great idea! It looks really nice in that spot. Glad the boys got it up the stairs. We had to cut our box spring in half and fold it, to get up it up.

Kim, you and I are cut from the same cloth. When someone tells me it won’t work, I am on a mission to prove to them it will.
Love the guest room. I’ll book my plane ticket asap ๐

You are too funny! It does fit into that little cubby perfectly. The house is really looking amazing, you guys are rockstars.
I wanted the couch in the basement when I moved in, but the boys deemed it impossible. When I had the movers bring over my washer and dryer later in the month they decided it was, in fact, possible… But by then I already had my heart set on a new Ikea sectional. Which we have yet to go and buy. Or measure for. lol

Haha!
That sounds like something that might happen in our house!
I mention things sometimes and Bud doesn’t see how it’ll work, but fortunately he normally gives it a go and ends up happy with the end results!
At least you don’t have to move again soon!
