Our television hutch has a new look, and I think I love it. The inspiration for this redo was Traci at Beneath my Heart. She made over her television cabinet last July and I thought, “Hey! That looks just like our hutch.” The seed was planted and now ours is revamped.
And, here she is. (You know you love the XBox.)
I still need to caulk the corners, but I think it turned out beautifully. The wallpaper really looks like beadboard but feels like foam. But, that doesn’t bother me. How many people go around feeling the inside of their television hutches?
What do you think?
Do you love the white or should I have stuck with honey oak?

it looks fantastic! so fresh and crisp.
How did you paint it? Good ol’ brush or do you have a sprayer? I should be getting my hands on a few hand me down pieces of my own that I will surely be painting white. I want to make sure I use proper technique! 🙂
Nicole Peterson says
I love the redo. Great job!
Dana says
I like the white much better. I goes well with your walls. It looks like a totally different piece. Good job.
Jenny @ Anything Pretty says
I was wondering what you decided to go with…..and after seeing the pics you definitely made the right decision! It looks a-ma-zing! And I also love how it brings out the color on the walls even more. Besides, you know me and the only type of honey oak I like is the type with paint on it. What does Ryan think?

Love it! All the details pop and it just looks so fresh and clean. Nice work.

Love it! This is exactly what I am going with an oak corner cabinet that my parents gave us and everybody bitched at me about painting it white too!

White all the way. I’m the same way…my parents just laugh at me when I say I’m painting something else. ; )

I love it!!!
I wish I had the courage to redo our honey oak chest in white. But I’m pretty sure my mom would disown me (since it used to be hers).
Robin says
It’s lovely!
Your making the world a better place one honey oak redo at a time. Keep up the good work.
If you feel like another project I have some horrible, nasty, honey oak kitchen cabniets you could tackle!
Kristi says
That looks great! I love the white. It looks like a brand new cabinet.
Carrie says
So, so pretty in white! That was a good call! Makes me *really* want to pick up a similar piece out of storage and do the same with it… only I really need it as a hutch/pantry! Hmmmmm…. you’ve really got me thinking!
Amy@My Front Porch says
LOVE the white. And beadboard wallpaper? Who knew??? Was it expensive?
Centsational Girl says
You know I adore wood, EXCEPT FOR HONEY OAK !!! So hip hip hooray you painted that baby. Love the dentil molding ! Here’s to ridding the world of honey oak one project at a time. [Did I just say that ? Someday those words will surely come back to bite me.]
Till then, love love love it white !
Kate
P.S. Have I told you lately that I love it white ?

I think it looks great Kim! I love the white.

I agree about the detail. The nice thing about paint is that it helps all that nice detail stand out. It looks great!
Stephanie says
LOVE.
Sara @ Russet Street Reno says
It looks amazing white. But it is a shame to paint nice solid wood, so I understand your dad’s pain! Too bad the color of the wood was all wrong. I also love the beadboard wallpaper you used!

Love the white! In the honey oak it’s too busy with all the grains of wood showing. It’s so pretty in the white (and you are so right about the details–they really stand out in white). Great job!
Danielle and Clint says
Leave it white! I just love how the detail pops out more, now!
Mrs. Adventure says
I love it!
Shannon says
hahaha your mom’s funny. Anyhoo, I agree, the white looks phenomenally better than the oak. And the wallpaper was a nice choice. Annnnnd I think honey oak should be outlawed.
Jen@Notes From the Heartland says
The white looks terrific Kim! I like your tactic…wait until the hubster is out of the country…then tackle the projects everyone tries to talk you out of! I have a handmedown dining set and hutch (the demon honey oak) that I would throw paint on in a SECOND if I could get away with it! LOL
Mom says
It turned ou t beautifully. If dad stops crying long enough longand his eyes clear up so he can see again, I’ll let him look at it and I’m sure he’ll agree. LOL
Erin @ Domestic Adventure says
Love, love, love the white! But, you would expect that from me, right, the girl who painstakingly removed all signs of that honey oak from her kitchen and bath. (Isn’t it amazing how many coats it takes to cover up that stuff!?)
I think you made the right choice!
