You say “Happy New Year,” and I say “Happy New Rug.”
I asked for a new rug for Christmas this year, and then I had to get down to business to choose one that I loved.
Before, we had so much tan going on in this room, so I knew I wanted a little pattern and color. But nothing too crazy. Just not so much “Beige on Beige.”
I chose the Bosphorus Distressed Persian Rug, which has been sitting in my Pinterest board for over a year patiently waiting for me to buy it.
I just had to decide on a color. When I’m trying to get a feel for a larger purchase, like furniture or rugs, I like to Google the name of the product and scroll through the Google Images. Unfortunately, I didn’t find many pictures in the dark blue or grey color ways. But, I did see it in a few real-life spaces – and it received good reviews.
I turned to the Internet to help me choose. I asked my friends on Facebook which looked better.
I agreed with the Internet and ordered the lighter version. (I still love the dark blue, but I think it limits what I can do in the room. And Ryan also mentioned that it may show more dog hair.)
The 8×10 rug was on sale for around $150 with free shipping. The price goes up and down, but I think $150 is a great deal for such a big rug.
Oh, and did I mention that my parents generously gifted this to me for Christmas? Don’t you order your own Christmas home decor gifts and get reimbursed? #adulting
When it arrived, I was pleased with how much it looked like the mockup. You never really know when you order something on the Internet.
There are mixes of lots of colors – beige, grey, aqua and even yellow. The pattern is interesting, but the colors are muted and blend in with our decor.
I’m thinking about getting a rug pad for a little extra “cush,” but it’s plenty comfortable and soft without it.
I feel like this rug really was meant for the room. It gives a little contrast to all the beige – but it still fits the space.
And, bonus – it really doesn’t show the dog hair.

not showing dog hair is a very important feature in a rug! very nice–I like the unexpected little bits of yellow.

I just went through the whole rug saga myself (and just blogged about it too, haha)! I LOVE the one you found–totally pulls the whole room together and I think the subtle colors offer a bunch of options if you ever want to switch up colors!

Oh, yes! I would have voted for this one, too. I use the thick felt type rug pads (about 1/4″ thick) that I find on Overstock.com. They last forever and don’t bunch up. I think they also will extend the life of the rug.
I like the pillows with the blue tassels-did you try them or were they too much blue with the rug?

Thanks for the tip, Peggy! I’ll have to look those up.
The pillows were just fillers. They are a little too large for daily use.

Although the pattern is muted, the rug really adds pizazz and livens up the entire room without screaming ‘look at ME’! What a great gift.

Thanks, Susan! I agree!
