If I were to describe our holiday decorating style this year, I would call it playfully modern. I’m having fun mixing graphic patterns, classic details, bright colors and playful touches. And it’s perfectly livable for our family, which is a must.
Nowhere is this feel more evident than our living room – where our family spends so much of our time together. It’s feeling totally festive and Santa-ready now.
I just hope it’s Christmas-y enough. (Kidding. Kidding. I take a more-is-more approach.)
I’m sharing our living room home tour today as part of the fun Very Merry Christmas Home Tour with lots of talented blog friends. Check out all the inspiration at the end of this post.
And don’t miss a special $300 PayPal giveaway – perfect to spend on holiday decor or gifts!
Our Living Room Christmas Home Tour
But first, let’s check out our living room decked out for the holidays. If you missed our black and red holiday mantel decor yesterday, stop by and check out all the details.
This post includes affiliate links, meaning, if you click through and make a purchase I will get a commission (at no additional cost to you).
The full living room has a similar feel to the mantel. Beginning with plenty of black and white buffalo check. And red. There’s always red.
That pinecone wreath was one of many we made for our winter wedding. I love getting out items each Christmas that were used at our wedding 10 years ago. Christmas weddings are fun.
The sofa was tossed with some holiday pillows and blankets. And I swapped out our normal blanket basket with a holiday version I picked up a few years ago on clearance from Magnolia.
We spend a lot of time curled up on this sofa, and it’s fun to switch it up.
Even our record player got a little Christmas cheer.
On the other side of the room, our vintage secretary. It’s fun to decorate throughout the year – but especially at Christmas. The secretary was Ryan’s grandmother’s and it’s one of my favorite furniture pieces in its own right.
This year, I added a few favorite pieces inside, including photos from each Christmas since Henry was born. (I love getting a favorite holiday image printed each year and store them away with the Christmas decorations.)
The Santa gnome was a gift from Michelle at Decor and the Dog. (See the tutorial here.) And the nativity was created from a barn beam last year. (See the tutorial here.)
Next to the hutch, I hung the reindeer metal art I made last year.
And my mom pointed out that Blitzen is spelled wrong. Thanks for not telling me, SPELL CHECK! Oh, well. Chalk it up to character!
There are lots of little touches of holiday cheer. Including the end table – that got filled with greenery, ornaments, a large tree by Isabel Bloom and Christmas string art by My 2 Heart Strings.
The Maine Blueberries crate was a gift from my mother-in-law. She found it at the Country Living Fair.
I haven’t shared this area much on the blog – but this chair is the most coveted in the living room. It’s the most comfortable. Even Santa approves.
And this star – I love it so much and change it out all year with new inserts. I picked up some new (HUGE) sprigs of greenery at a local store this year.
Above the couch, I also changed out some of the wall decor to be more Christmas-y. This was a super easy swaparoo! I just used the existing nail holes to avoid having to repair anything after the holidays.
The canvas was from Henry’s first Christmas. (SOB!) And the other two pieces of decor were picked up in years’ past. The metal W was already here but got filled with ornaments for an easy festive touch.
I always get so excited to see the holiday decor come together. It’s like a puzzle every year to do something different while using some of the same pieces.
And we really enjoy the decor all throughout December – lots of good memories made in our holiday home.
