Living in the middle of nowhere has given me a renewed appreciation for the change of seasons. I can literally see it happening around me, and it’s awesome.
And while the fields and trees are changing, our home is getting fall-ready, too.
Today, I’m sharing the first peeks at our fall home – along with several other bloggers. (Check them all out at the end of this post – for loads of great inspiration for your autumn home.)
I always get tons of questions about where we find all the unique things in our rooms, so here is our source list of a few of my favorites. It finally feels more like fall when we bring in the pumpkins. It wouldn’t be fall without pumpkins. Luckily, our favorite local pumpkin patch (Frank Pumpkin Farm, for you locals), didn’t disappoint. We loaded up the car – from these teeny little cuties to 75 pounders.
We also had to update our pillows this year – our covers from prior years were looking pretty shabby. I scored the buffalo check pillows and pumpkin spice pillows for a song. Amazon is my favorite place to find affordable pillow covers.
I’m pretty smitten with the black and white checks – they will probably stay out through the holidays.
Related: Don’t miss this year’s fall-inspired fireplace mantel for more inspiration.
I also added dried hydrangeas throughout the house. These were actually picked last fall and still look great, but I’ve added a few fresh ones from our yard here and there. They mix together nicely.
Here’s a closer look at some of those blooms – I love that they look great fresh or dried. That’s it. Hydrangeas are my favorite.
Now I just need 5 or 10 dozen more hydrangea plants in my yard.
Maybe more.
There’s an abundance of pumpkins and other tchotchkes in the antique secretary. I’ve actually pared down my fall decorations a lot in the past few years- but what I’m left with are truly some of my favorites.
I think that decorating for holidays is a great way to breathe fresh life into your home – it truly keeps things fun and fresh.
And I love finding ways to decorate with natural elements – it’s perfect for this time of year, especially.
I’m also learning that it doesn’t take a lot to make the house feel warm and welcoming for autumn.
I can easily add the cute pumpkins and florals to my existing decor – like books, boxes and vases.
It’s been fun to bring fall into our home this year – integrating new ideas with some of my old favorites. (Check out past fall home tours for even more ideas.)
I only hope our home lives up to the beauty that surrounds us – because fall puts on quite a show for us out in the country.

ooh, I remember from last year how you have a great source for cheap pumpkins–jealous! And me without a single pumpkin yet this year. Perhaps seeing yours will inspire me to finally go get some!

Too funny, I have those buffalo check pillow covers in my amazon cart!! I’ve been looking for something for the table that’s not a full runner, too…where did you get that matching fabric on your table?
Kim Woodward says
That’s just a linen napkin – they are so nice in person. Just added the affiliate link to the post – or here it is:

Very festive! Your home always looks so put together.
It’s feeling like fall here in NC and I’m so looking forward to it. No more 90 degree days into autumn. Yahoo!

Kim, we just completed the tung oil and citrus solvent finish of our new yellow pine floor. We put on 5 coats and allowed adequate time for each coat to soak in. We are now in the 30 day period until it is fully cured. Question: what do we use to clean the floor on a long term basis, if it has scuff marks or something is spilled, etc.? Thank you!
Kim Woodward says
We have mostly just used water – it takes out almost anything. You don’t want anything harsh or abrasive. We “mop” the floor with a microfiber Norwex mop once a week or so for basic cleaning. In the few times we have had something that needs coming out (like marker or scuff marks), I just use a microfiber cloth and water. When I reached out to the manufacturer, I was also told that I could Dawn dish soap if needed for tough stains.
Hope this helps! Hope you love your floor!

I love all the buffalo check!! And that star wall planter–where did you get it?
Kim Woodward says
I got it at a favorite local boutique – I was stalking it for months until it went on sale. Isn’t it fun? It’s great for changing seasonal decor!
