Thank you so much for all the kind and encouraging words about our fall home tour on Monday!
Instead of bombarding that entire post with photos, I tried to share highlights from each room. And now I can share more about each room without overwhelming anyone.
First up – the living room.
But before we get to the full tour, here are a few notes in response to comments and emails I have received …
Where do you store all your stuff?
On Monday, someone asked how I store my other decorative items when I put out all my seasonal decor. A few things go into cabinets, but much of what is in this room is there all the time. It’s just a matter of adding a few fall touches on top.
I’ve pared down to about 2 bins of fall stuff, which I think is pretty manageable for storage. (I don’t even want to talk about holiday decor.) I also bring in lots of real pumpkins that I purchased locally for a STEAL. These all get thrown into the garden when Christmas decorations come out.
How can I find my seasonal style?
Every year, I think my holiday decor gets closer and closer to what I really love. It has taken me a lot of practice and layering and purging.
Maybe it’s easier for other people, but you’ll see a huge change in the way I’ve decorated over the years. But I love that. I love that every year it gets better.
I love to find ways to work holiday decor into my existing decor. I have a lot of warm colors in my home already – so fall seems to flow naturally. But, I’ve seen some gorgeous homes with blues and whites and cooler fall colors, too.
How can I decorate for the season on a budget?
In an effort to not spend all the money, I try to shop the house. Sometimes I’m more successful than others. I purchased some new things this year, but much of what I did was at the Dollar Spot at Target or on clearance at Hobby Lobby.
As an example of shopping the house, I was able to use pillows we already had to make the sofa pop and then added some plaid blanket scarves for some fall color. The orange houndstooth pillows are normally on our bed and they add the perfect pop of orange.
(Geneseo pillow and scarf from Urban Farmhouse, Houndstooth pillows from Dillards last year, Multicolored pillows from TJMaxx 4-5 years ago, Pumpkin pillow cover from Society6 Crafterberry Bush)
Honestly, the sofa was one of the things we missed most about living in the barn. Downsizing to have a dual-purpose bed/sofa was not our favorite. And this couch is just so comfortable! (It was a hand-me-down from my in-laws, originally from JCPenney.)
Behind the sofa is the first wall with actual things hung in the house. These things take time when your husband spent 6 weeks of his life plastering every wall. The clock was a souvenir from his trip to Germany with his dad, and I added some other little mementos.
(Cuckoo clock purchased in Germany, W from Unskinny Boppy, HOME sign from Mabel, Canvases from Tiny Prints)
I love corralling everything on the end table into a crate. (This crate was a gift from my mother-in-law. She purchased it at the Country Living Fair.) The box hides a multitude of sins – like remotes and pens. And it doesn’t quite hide our Minions Kleenex. Meh. Real life. Ain’t nobody got time to hide the tissue.
(Burlap pumpkin from Target Dollar Spot, Grapevine acorn from Urban Farmhouse)
This secretary is probably one of my favorite pieces in the house. It has so much storage to house office supplies and games. It was obviously hand-built in one piece. You really just don’t see items like this anymore.
Inside the glass, I added some fall fun like pumpkins and books.
And above, I added a small tin truck and some pumpkins. Easy peasy.

And just a little something on the coffee table. I don’t like having much on display here because it gets in the way of life. But this doesn’t get in the way or knocked off.
(Leaf tray was a clearance find from JCPenney years ago, Pumpkin (?), Concrete acorn from The Corn Crib, Pitcher from IKEA, picks from Urban Farmhouse)
Finally…… our fireplace. I already mentioned that I created the striped backdrop from a piece of plywood. It was such a great way to make it more of a focal point.
I’m still working out how to handle the bins below. They are all different sizes (great planning) so it’s not like I can find three matching baskets and plop them in. I think I have a plan … but for now we are living with it.
(Burlap garland from Hobby Lobby, Blankets thrifted, Olive basket and metal hanging basket from Decor Steals, fall leaves from Designs on the Boulevard, Wheat from TJMaxx)

Just wanted to say how much I adore your style and the new home. I’ve been having a hard time getting into a lot of my go-to blogs because the style is getting so…well…unlivable! You’ve managed a style in your home that is both timeless and comfortable/relatable. Love it – LOVE it. Thanks! 🙂

I absolutely adore that secretary and your mantel turned out so great.

Thanks, Becky! The secretary is definitely one of my favorite pieces of furniture. Not sure how I would get it out of the house in the case of emergency, but I’d be considering it.
