What a year! I’m feeling reflective today, as we near the end of 2015.
We’ve officially surpassed the one-year mark of living in the barn. The process of temporarily downsizing has been wonderful and challenging. And the process of building our own house has been wonderful and crazy-making.
After more than 7 years of blogging, it sometimes seems that our older posts get the majority of the interest and traffic. And it’s true that some of our older posts are pretty popular. I love that. I love that I still get questions about our wall colors in our first house. I love that people still care about our cabinets in our last house.
But this year, we had some new posts that also had some great interaction and interest.
Maybe it’s self-indulgent to share this, but I always find it interesting to see the most popular posts on my favorite blogs. Maybe you’ve missed a few.
Plus, I write a blog about our lives and projects. What could be more self-indulgent than that?
Here are a few of the top posts that were written in 2015. (This is purely a reflection of page views.)
- How much does it cost to build a new house?
- The dark side of small living
- Letting go of stuff I thought I needed
- Build list: Outlets
- DIY toddler platform bed
- Toy storage drop zone in the barn
- A tiny house tour
- Stuff I love
- On building our own house
It isn’t shocking that the majority of these posts have to do with the tiny house and our new house – these are big parts of our lives right now.
But only two of the top posts were “legit” projects – the DIY platform bed and toy storage cubbies.
It’s a bit surprising that some of the most popular posts were more “thought” pieces than “project” pieces. Who would have thought that posting about outlet placement or difficult parts of small living would hit a chord? I guess people care about what I think more than I expected.
So, in 2016, I’ll only be sharing long posts about what I think. Aren’t you looking forward to that? (Kidding.)
What do you think? Did you miss any of these posts the first time around?

You’ve had a great year! I’ve loved reading about your tiny house experiences, but I’m at least as excited about hearing all about your move back to a medium house 🙂

What a great you that you have had! I loved revisiting your posts and finding new ones that i had missed!
I have seen so many “Year in Review” posts the last 2 days and I really love them. I had so much fun being self-indulgent and writing my Year in Review post too. I think it’s awesome to look back at the things we’ve done within the year, because I know for me, sometimes I feel like i haven’t done enough, especially when it comes to blogging..But writing my Review of the year post really helped me see how much I achieved this year! It was nice!
I can’t believe 2016 is going to be here in a few days. I still feel like i have so much to do.
