The inside of the house is really starting to take shape. I feel like it’s hard to really visualize a home until the walls start going up inside.
Now that there’s some interior progress, I thought I’d share the interior photos as the walls are being framed in at this point. This may or may not interest you. I wish I could just have you all over to tour the space as it comes together.
As a reminder, the upstairs has three bedrooms (including ours), a full bathroom, a laundry closet and a large linen closet.
Our bedroom isn’t large, but the ceilings are just beautiful. At this point, we’re planning to plank all the ceilings and possibly leave them natural upstairs. I just think that peak is the best.
Our plans called for closets across each of the shorter walls, but we opted to frame two closets per wall with space in between for a desk on one side and a dresser on the other. This will be great because the room isn’t big enough for much more than the king size bed.
We are ordering narrow french doors for each of these closets. (Here’s the inspiration.)
The two front bedrooms aren’t big, but each boasts a nice big window and tall ceilings. (The ceiling peaks at about 15 feet.)
Each bedroom also has a small closet. Nothing major, but they are bedrooms, not penthouse suites. The main bathroom upstairs is pretty simple, but will be way more space than we currently have.
And the hallway has dual closets – one will hide the washer and dryer and the other will be the most massive linen/cleaning closet that exists in the world.
And now moving downstairs. Here’s a little shot at the back mudroom. We’re planning to make this space an area to leave boots, coats and shoes. The dogs will also have a bed here. The door is the downstairs bathroom. (I love that the bathroom is accessible without traipsing through the house.)
From the front of the house, the stairs are beginning to take shape. You can also spot the doorway that will lead to the basement stairs. This is the view from the front door. I love that there really are sight lines through the entire main floor. I am looking forward to having eyeballs on Henry at all times.
So, that’s a little peek at our house coming together. We’ve also *almost* finalized our kitchen and it is so so good. I mean, seriously. So good.
I spent an hour measuring and drawing out the cabinets in the kitchen space to get a feel for the space and I think it’s going to be great. Can’t wait to share more.

Those bedrooms are going to be so unique and wonderful with those crazy tall ceilings. Love it!!! And I love the roughed in look of the master bedroom; I never understand these master suites with separate seating areas and all this square footage you’ll never use… seems like just a bunch to clean. haha.
So fun to watch the progress! Your hubs and family are like superhuman, I think.

Yeah, I make a lot of design decisions based on what I’m going to have to clean. Life;s too short. 😉

This is just going to be so good Kim. Do you have a floor plan for the basement as well. Maybe I missed it 🙂
Kim says
We do but I haven’t shared it. Mostly because I don’t like it and plan to change it up. Basically the only thing that’s set in stone is that the bathroom will be under the mudroom area (from the first floor). And the utility room will be almost directly under the fireplace. Since we aren’t finishing it right away, I’m trying not to think too much about it.

It’s looking great, Kim!! I love how well thought out each space is. If we build someday, I can only hope we can build with this much intention. It is so fun watching your journey!!

Thanks, Kristi. Ryan would probably tell you I’m overthinking everything, but I really want to make sure it all makes sense for us today and in the future.

Love the idea of room between the closets for a desk and dresser. Very smart – it’s coming along so nicely, Kim!

Thanks, Emily! HOneslty, I think the desk may just end up collecting papers, but that’s what Ryan wants on his side so I can live with it.

Kim, I really do love the upstairs of your home. I feel like it will be so warm and cozy in the winter and I love how close you are to each other. I can’t wait to see the finished product. I know it will be simply AMAZING!
