Friday was my 31st birthday, and I celebrated the way any self-respecting woman should – going out to dinner at Olive Garden and seeing a movie of her choosing with her husband.
I’m officially an old woman.
Further revealing this point – when Ryan asked what I wanted for my birthday, I said I wanted him to be my manservant for a day – to do all the projects I’ve been wanting to do around the barn without any eye-rolling, questioning or interruptions.
Best. Gift. Ever.
Seriously, Ryan was such a good sport. Especially since buying a gift from Amazon would have been cheaper and easier for everyone involved.
So, one of the simpler projects was this quick and simple jewelry holder for the barn. When an old rake head broke off, we found that this was the perfect way to repurpose it.
Isn’t it cute? We ended up putting it in the bathroom, which is probably not the ideal location (due to moisture). But there was literally no other place in the barn where we could drill into a stud and where it would be high enough to keep us from impaling ourselves on the spikes.
So, we’re counting on the vent working well and going with it for the time we’re living here.
Mostly of my jewelry has been in a storage box since November, so this is a total improvement. I’ve already worn two necklaces I didn’t even remember I had.
In other news, here’s the other side of the bathroom. The towel holder was made by our friends Pam and Dave from an old frame and branches. It’s the cutest, right? Not to be outshone by Henry tub photos. (I could die from the cuteness.)
What projects did you work on this weekend?
P.S. None of this is a surprise if you follow me on Instagram. I tend to not be able to keep anything a secret so I shared our new jewelry holder in real time this weekend.

This is probably so simple that I shouldn’t ask for a tutorial… But is there a tutorial for the branch towel holder? I love it! Why kind of wood? How did they clean it? I’m totally using the manservant thing on my next birthday. Great idea!!
Kim Woodward says
I know they used a tutorial on Pinterest, but I’m not really sure about the process. I know they used an existing wood frame and then just cut branches from the yard to size before nailing them in to the top and bottom.

This is stunning Kim – Great idea! The rust on the rake looks really good 🙂

Absolutely love these! And the tub pictures of course!

Oh my gosh, I am obsessed with this idea. You are so creative! I also love that twig towel holder. Also, some of the best birthdays are the low key ones. I’m glad you had a great day!
Kim Woodward says
Thanks so much, friend. I need to remind myself that low-key is usually the best.

my bday is in a few weeks, maybe I should ask for a day of manserving….I’ve got all kinds of projects that are on my pinboards…and 1/3 the way done!
I love the old rake up there. I’m glad it’s high enough that you won’t poke yourselves right in the eyeball too!
Kim Woodward says
Yeah – eyeballs are sort of important, right?

Puh-leaze! If you’re old, I must be dead. Hope you had a memorable bday.
Love your repurposing and handy friends to boot!

Happy Birthdaaaay! I always ask for ‘service’ gifts from my husband too. This year I’m requesting he finally put together that time-lap video of my pregnancy that he promised me, oh about 9 months ago 🙂 Ryan is the best!
Kim Woodward says
He is a keeper – I feel like we accomplished so much. I used my birthday for good – not for evil. 😉
Rachel says
Happy birthday old lady! I love the jewelry storage. Fits perfectly into the aesthetic in there. And nakey baby Henry! Cutest!
Kim Woodward says
I know. Nakey babies make me almost (ALMOST!) want another one.
cassie says
great idea! i love the way it looks and sort of combines rustic glam! 🙂
Kim Woodward says
Rustic is right – there was actually tons of cement on it that I couldn’t get off. Meh. Nothing a little clorox wipe can’t take care of right?
