I’m back with another seasonal project, and there’s plenty of time to throw this one together before your Halloween party or trick-or-treating.
In October, Behr challenged myself and the three other DIY experts (Marty’s Musings, Liz Marie, and The Frugal Homemaker) to use paint for a Halloween project. I shared my painted pumpkins last week as part of the Pumpkin Parade. Now, I’m back again with another project …
A fun and quirky “BOO” display.
This project actually started out as something totally different in my head. I was planning to create a hanging “BOO” door decoration with the three tree slices. But, when I brought home the letters from JoAnn’s, I realized the letters were too large. And since they were flat on the bottom, I thought it may be cute to just stand them up as a display on my shoe cabinet in the entryway.
Since the letters were white to begin, I just free handed some different patterns using Behr Premium Plus interior paint I had in the basement from last year’s sign-painting workshop.
I honestly have any color you could need in my basement. I think this one may be Orange Peel.
I painted around the edges first, and then I did the fronts in chevron, stripes and dots. I used painters tape for the stripes, but otherwise, I just eyeballed it. This made it a uber quick project to complete. I added some black and white washi tape in the stripes for more visual interest.
The tree slices were painted in Black and could be used for lots of other projects in the future. The letters are just placed on them so there was no permanent glue necessary.
I’m digging the modern and festive vibe they add to the entry. And just in time for our Bring Your Own Pumpkin party this weekend.(More on that next week.)
If you are a Behr lover like us, check them out on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. I’m also moderately obsessed with the Color Smart by BEHR app on my iPhone – you can actually find a color by snapping a photo. (I have been using this for years, and often show it to other folks in the paint aisle at Home Depot. I’m sure they love me.)
What do you think of my simple Halloween project?
Disclosure: We are working with Behr to complete projects as a DIY expert. We will be provided with paint and stain to complete the projects. (Although in this case, we had the paint on hand from previous projects.) All opinions, as always, are our own.

Love these! My sister and I were going to attempt to make “Wicked” letters for her apartment..but I couldn’t track down letters that would stand up. Should have looked harder. I instead ordered her some for $30. Oh well, she’s a good sister 🙂

Love that you found another project that you can use your tree slices for. And it looks perfect sitting there on the shoe organizer. I actually just hung a bunting over our organizer. 🙂
Hope your day of deep cleaning is going well. (I should so being doing that instead of poking around the internet!)
