At the Woodward household, we only have one small bathroom. When we renovated, we knew it was important that the bathroom be practical and also pretty. So, we infused the space with tons of storage and practical touches, and also made it a very nice-looking space – with bead board, hex floor tiles and subway tile in the shower.
However, I am also aware that not every has the luxury of renovating their bathroom to make it perfect for their needs. But that doesn’t mean that any bathroom can’t be turned into a spa-like retreat on a budget.
Check out my very first video blog EVER (so nervous about this) where I discuss five ways to make your bathroom an oasis for under $100.
Or, if you are like me and don’t ever want to watch me talking to my iPhone in the bathroom (ugh, I’m too embarrassed to watch myself), then here’s the overview of ways I make my bathroom a little more luxurious. (And come back tomorrow for a full bathroom tour.)
1. Storage. Nothing causes more stress in a bathroom than seeing everything on the counters. Ick. I have a strict “nothing on the countertops” rule at the Woodwards. (It doesn’t hurt that the counters are too small to hold much anyhow.) But for under $20, I was able to get a few bins and a shelf from IKEA to store all my products to get ready in the morning. They are easy to access and store away quickly. We also have storage for Henry’s bath time and Ryan’s toothbrush, which may be the only thing the man needs to get ready in the morning.
2. Towel hooks. I believe that towel rods should be outlawed. Who’s with me? They never hold the number of towels you need and always look sloppy. For a few dollars apiece, hooks make a much better option – which means you don’t have to spend your time picking up wet towels on the floor and throughout the house. This leaves you more time to relax.
3. Fabric. Add some fabric for a nice, homey touch. I added curtains and a strip of fabric to the standard waffle weave shower curtain for a more custom feel.
4. Artwork. Don’t be afraid of artwork in the bathroom. If you go to a fancy hotel, you’ll see that they decorate the bathroom as as space all it’s own. We added black and white photos of San Francisco in inexpensive black frames. It adds a little personality to the space.
5. Waterpik Rainfall+ Rain Shower Head. Finally, I believe in investing in the big things that matter. You want to spend your time relaxing, not fixing things. I was given an Waterpik Rainfall+ Rain Shower Head, and it looks really nice in my bathroom and blends well with my other chrome fixtures. Plus, it has really great water pressure, is ultra-efficient and has seven spray settings. It makes me feel like I’m in my own private spa. Although, let’s be honest, I don’t make it to many spas and my kid is crying for me right now. Back to reality. At least the shower is rad.
Mother’s Day is right around the corner and what better gift than the gift of a luxurious retreat? Want to win some brownie points from your mom? Package some luxurious bath salts, fresh towels and a Waterpik shower head for her. You can even get a $10 rebate of the shower head below. Meaning that you will win at Mother’s Day.
What’s your best tip to create a budget-friendly bathroom oasis?
