One more check in curb appeal progress. And this is a biggie.
I finally painted the railing that Ryan built in May. And boy, oh boy. I’m glad that’s done.
And because I never get tired of seeing befores and afters, here’s what the house looked like when we bought it in 2010. You may need to take a shower after witnessing this ugliness.
On the first day, we ripped out those bushes. Since then, we cleaned up the landscaping, got rid of the railroad ties, tore out the railings, removed the shutters and the horrible storm door, replaced the glass in the original window on the door and painted the door, replaced the windows and aluminum trim, painted the siding, cleaned and painted the porch floor and replaced the mailbox.
But of all the projects, I think the railings take the cake. They make such a statement. Ryan really killed it when he built these railings.
Ryan was on Henry duty all weekend so I could knock out this project. Let me tell you, painting porch railings is likely one of my least favorite painting projects of all time. It was hotter than heck and the project is so tedious. But, it’s worth it in the end.
Now, I really only have a few other things that I’d like to do to call the front of the house “complete.”ย I need to clean the porch floor and stairs really well and touch up some paint on the floor. Then, I’ll add some house numbers, some vinyl on the door, and paint the light post out front. I’m not adding weeding garden beds to the list, because I know that ain’t ever happening. ๐
Aren’t the flower pots looking great? I kind of love them. Especially the sweet potato vines, which are close to taking over the world.
In other news, I bought this adorable watering can at Target to replace one that broke. Since I have to water the heck out of my pots, the can may as well be pretty, right?
I’m definitely no longer embarrassed to call this house our home.
What do you think of our latest project?
(I also painted the railings on the back porch, but I have a few other projects to complete before I’ll share. I think.)

Curb Chic, Kim! I am smitten with the red door. I’ve been thinking about painting our front door orange. Adventurous or tacky, I’m not sure yet!
You’re a rock star!

Doesn’t even seem like the same house!!
Love that watering can. I have a frog that keeps making it’s home in mine. I try to pour the water and nothing comes out. He needs to find a new residence.
