Sometimes it’s the little projects around the house that make me the happiest. That’s kind of how I feel about the mailbox.
We’ve had the same old yucky and rusty mailbox since buying our house in 2010. I truly hated that mailbox. But there were more pressing matters, and it got put off. You can see it behind the yucky lamp post (also a sore spot for me) in this original house photo.
Well, the mailbox made it on the baby list. And I had been painting a new mailbox the week that Henry arrived. Ryan installed it after we got home and I’m so darn happy with it I could scream.
Isn’t it pretty? It goes so much better with the house now. Ryan simply installed the post over the existing metal post (which had concrete holding it in the ground). I put a few coats of paint on a metal mailbox and it made all the difference.
Now we just need some house numbers and the railings painted. And maybe a porch swing? Anyhoo, for now, I’m pretty content with our new mailbox.
And don’t even get me started with how much I adore the flower pots.
Or the Asiatic lilies.
Because that conversation may take all night.
So, what do you think of our little mailbox spruce-up?

The mailbox looks great! But what a heck of a transformation from where it started! Love all the red flowers everywhere too 🙂

I really like the mailbox! I watched a Nate Berkus Show episode where they did that and then also did the house numbers in a fun bright color. Only they put the house numbers on a tray to the side of the door (up on the siding of course). It was some small tray that they found at goodwill or somewhere that they spray painted and then put the numbers on (I’m guessing stickers?). It was super cute and I think it would work well here. I can’t find the link anywhere but the tray looked something like this (before spray paint): http://fatboyskitchengadgets.com/ViewItem.php?ItemID=2148.
Gotta love a website called FatBoys Kitchen Gadgets… ha! Hope you’re enjoying that new little one!!

What an amazing improvement! 🙂 Small projects are the BEST!
Question: Is that a midwest thing to have the mailbox by the front door/porch? I’m from the East Coast and we have mailboxes at the start of our driveways, and if we don’t have a driveway, we have a mail slot in the door. Just noticed that a friend of mine in Ohio has a mailbox by her front porch too.

Your house is looking so cute! I think our mailbox might of been a sibling to your mailbox and we need to do something about ours. It is rusted and old and gross. However our driveway is very narrow and has a little hill so the mailbox helps guide us to not drive off the hill onto our neighbors yard. Maybe a paint job will help do the trick for now.

I normally wouldn’t think of a mailbox as being such a big difference maker, but I love the pop of red and the newness of it! Well done, lady!
