You know those projects that are really not blog-worthy? This may be one of those projects. Cause there aren’t really lots of pretty pictures or how-to instructions.
But, darn it. Ryan’s been working so hard on this that I have to pay it homage on the blog.
WE ARE PARKING IN THE GARAGE.
It’s been a year since we built the garage. But, it wasn’t wired for electricity until this month. And it’s pretty much been a dumping ground for anything we didn’t have a home for.
So this is pretty much saying that the fact that it’s lit and organized is nothing short of a miracle.
An October miracle.
I may have made it very clear that I did not plan to park in the street come winter. (And let’s face it. It’s practically winter.) Ryan spent several weeks running all the lights and outlets. Then, we spent last Friday night (we are party animals) going through everything and trying to find a home for it all.
And now – I’m one happy wife who can park in the garage.
My life is officially complete.
(And for those who are interested, I’ve updated the house list to include some of our more recent projects.)

That is simply amazing. I have never had a garage I was actually able to park in… What a foreign concept.
Where does Ryan park the monster truck?

Lucky! I would love a garage! Where I grew up everyone had one, but here no one does (unless it is new construction). Sadly we can’t even add one because of the property lines.

Congrats! This is definitely something to be proud of! My parents could never use their garage because it was always stuffed to the gills! Of course, snow isn’t as big of a problem in Virginia. As someone who is garageless and envious, let me just say that you guys did a terrific job!

Totally worth blogging about. And this garage-less girl is super jealous. I’ll be thinking of you as I (well, Chris) scrapes snow this winter!

I agree with you, it is a luxury! In my first house I didn’t have a garage and it wasn’t the best situation, especially having to park a certain way in the driveway. The person who left earlier parks at the end. With our new house we have a garage and it is lovely, especially with those Iowa winters!

Love your cute home! Yes! I totally agree a garage is the best thing since sliced bread. 😉 We moved into our home 14 years ago ~ after 11 years of apartment living. The three things that made me so happy were: the garage, utility room (washing inside my own home…wow!), and a backyard for my dogs.
Congratulations on getting the garage ready and beating the snow!

YES! as we are house hunting, that it one of the must-haves on our list. i am not going through a new england winter without one!

Yay, for parking in the garage! Can you have your husband call mine and remind him that’s where my car is supposed to be! lol 🙂
Danielle says
I completely agree. We spent Saturday organizing ours because I threw a small fit about having the garage to park in this week since we were getting snow. After seeing all the downed trees on the street this morning I was extra glad my car was warm and safe in the garage. PS. i have sucked at commenting lately but you should know that your house is adorable and I’m in love with your kitchen. I can’t believe how quickly you guys have settled in!

I’m jealous of your garage. The only thing I hate about renting (really, the ONLY thing), is not having a garage. Not looking forward to another winter of snow removal.
Cait @ Hernando House says
Hooray for the garage (& getting to park in it)! I really, really wish that we had a garage instead of a shed.
Also, I know what you mean about projects that don’t seem blog-worthy. I recently added a section called “Not Blog-Sexy” to our to-do list page.

Garages are the awesome for people living in the ridiculously snowy midwest. And wiring garages for electricity is ridiculously time consuming and annoying and not fun to blog about. Speaking from experience. I’m guessing your husband put in a similar (excessive) number of outlets and lights that mine did, in which case it takes even longer. HURRAY FOR PARKING IN THE GARAGE!!!

I’m so glad you can park in your garage – I can’t imagine not having a garage during the winter and having to brush my car off everyday (though I did it for a solid 10 years, now I just can’t imagine life without that luxury).
Also, it’s my pet peeve when people with 2 car garages can’t fit both (or even one) of their cars in their garage (this might be a problem on our street). Purge people, purge! I do give a 6 month grace period to people who’ve just moved though, so you’re good 🙂

Wow! What a wonderful thing to park in one’s garage! It looks great in there. Yay for you!!!

That is a big deal. It’s one of those projects that isn’t usually pretty, but makes everyday life so much easier.

I say, Hurray!!! I would kill to have a garage. Look at all that extra storage space, you lucky duck.
On an unrelated manner, perhaps some time you could do a tutorial on how to use Scribd with a blog? Can you use it to put a printable recipe on your blog?
Jordan@the2seasons says
That is a huge deal. We recently replace our hand pull down garage door with an electric garage door and that was huge. It is now storing our kayaks right in the middle of the garage so we are working on building shelves and storage. I can’t wait to actually park in the garage and just push a button for the door to go down. Ahh the little things in life!

It looks awesome what a sweet hubby. Our little rental DOES NOT have garage parking so this Texas girl is going to learn all about your mid-western winters… yikes!
Lucky Girl says
Yay! I’m so jealous! As the wife of a woodworker whose basement and garage space gets filled with tools and wood (actually its not just the garage and basement, its often the kitchen, office and living room too) I’ve pretty much resigned myself to never parking in our garage – but a girl can dream 🙂

Woo hoo! Cleaning our pit of garage is on the week-end to-do list.
Sincerly,

Congrats! Great job Ryan! A garage is a luxury.
We love that our van Molly is not baking in the sun most of the time. She looks much younger than her age of 12 years. Here we relish the garage because of the heat, not the cold.
