Do you remember this beauty?
A lovely Kohler apron-front sink that we found on Craigslist last June for $50. I love it.
Unfortunately, my pocketbook is not a friend of the farmhouse sink. Once I began getting quotes on kitchens, it was clear that the sink may not work in the house.
First, the problem was that the sink was very large and didn’t fit well in any of the designs.
Then, we realized that the base-grade cabinets didn’t have many options for bases for a sink like this. The high-end cabinetry did, but that wasn’t in our budget. And I didn’t want to risk buying a base from a different cabinet design.
Finally, I realized that we could go to IKEA, buy a single-basin apron-front sink and save more than $2,500 from the kitchen price I was quoted elsewhere.
It was a no-brainer. And, I was able to unload this on Craigslist with a tidy $100 profit within 24 hours. I’m a little stunned – I think I could have actually raised the price and still sold it, but that’s okay. I’ll take $100 for little work.
So, I’ll call that a success. I am semi-disappointed that it won’t work out in our new kitchen, but Ryan’s happy to have a little more garage space and I’m happy to have a plan.
IKEA trip this weekend, folks. That means that kitchen-mania is coming soon.
Are you sad to see this sink go, too?

We are almost ready to move into our new digs that we completely gutted and put back together. I bought this very sink for our new kitchen, and it cost TWICE as much as our new Kohler cast iron bathtub. TWICE as much!!!! So your sink was the deal of the century. I have to admit though, that with our carrara marble countertops, the sink looks the best!!! We will start reveals soon on our blog.

That sink was beautiful and it looked like it was in really good condition. I can’t believe you found it for only $50.

Too bad about the sink….but it sounds like it worked out well. You get to save money, and make money, and go to IKEA….what could be better than that?
Can’t wait to see the kitchen plans come together!

Now that is a renovation story with a happy ending!
There have been so many times we buy things for a project that we can’t use and we can’t return it and/or it isn’t worth selling.

I am sad to see it go ๐ but I love the IKEA sinks, too and it will look fabulous in your new kitchen – which I can’t wait to see.
Wish I could join you at IKEA. I have my eye on some crab fabric and red striped fabric there for Tommy’s first birthday party. Stupid Ikealess Colorado.
