Do you ever have big hopes for something and then it turns out kinda bad?
Yeah, me too.
I had this grand idea to crochet a hat for Ron Santo (our soon to be niece or nephew), so I picked a simple-looking pattern from The Happy Hooker and went to town.
Well, I clearly read the pattern incorrectly. When I was done, it looked less like a baby hat and more like a kippah. Which probably isn’t useful for the future non-Jewish baby. It also sort of resembled a baby beret…
But, it did look pretty cute on Pippen.
And it fits the back of Ryan’s head pretty well.
Neither of these are very useful. We’ll categorize this as a semi-fail.

It could be a yarmulke! Hey, at least you crocheted a circle. I can only seem to crochet a triangle. Not even a rectangle like scarf. No. Just a triangle.

What a cute post. I admire you for making such a great effort!
Amanda @ Little House on the Corner says
lol… Even so, I’m still super impressed by anyone who can crochet at all!

Havaaaa nagila, havaaaa nagila! Dude, I have never heard it called a kippah, I only know it as a yarmulke. And I always get nervous for John when we go to his jewish best friend’s events. Do you have to wear one? Does gabe wear one? DO they make baby yarms? Are we offending them if you don’t wear it? Are they gonna have latkes? How many is too many to eat?
I’m a mess.
Who’s Pippen? Did I miss something?

HAHAHAH! The picture of the top of Ryan’s head cracked me up! I’m surprised he let you take/post that. As one of my first knitting projects I made a scarf for John…..but it was a better fit for a teddy bear or medium size dog.
PS-I might be really behind but I like the new header/saying.

I’m cracking up! This reminds me of Homer Simpson: “Kids, You Tried Your Best and You Failed Miserably. The Lesson Is, Never Try.”

Ah, the joys of learning gauge. I have done this many times (yes my Teddy Bear wore a hat for a year before it got donated) and now I rarely follow a pattern directly because I try the thing on, modify, try it on, etc etc. So I consider patterns for clothing times that need to fit a lot like the Pirate Code…..they’re more like “guidlines”

Um, can I just say that that color combo is fabulous, though? That my dear, was a homerun!

LOL! I have too many semi-fails to even begin to list. The lastest was a pillow cover – turned out horrible and looked like something a five year old would make! Just awful!
the cape on the corner says
ha! yes, it totally looks like a yarmulke.

Ugh–I tried to make a brooch-type necklace. It looked really cute, but the fabric flowers I made to be the brooches were too heavy and it made the whole thing list to one side. The kicker? I burned my thumb so badly with the glue gun that I had a nasty blister for days. And no new necklace. Sad face.
Amanda @ Serenity Now says
I totally think you should make a strap and turn it into a dog hat! Looks cute on Pippen.

Hehehe, that’s hilarious! At least you’re having some fun with your “semi-fail”! ๐ And this totally reminds me that I’ve got about 3 scarves and 2 hats that are still attached to my knitting needles and have been forgotten about for the past oh, 2 years… so there’s my semi-fail – they’re not even done yet! ๐

That’s hilarious!! And of course my crafty & DIY attempts are marked by numerous fails and semi-fails – but at least we’re trying, right? ๐

Thanks for that last picture. I needed a good laugh this morning. It looks good on him though!
