The good news is that the house is clean and looks good after the Christmas tornado that swept through last week.
As much as I love Christmas, and boy, do I love Christmas, I also love the emptiness of our home in January. Just a few things around. No fluff. No frills. NOTHING ON OUR COUNTERTOPS. Can I get an amen?
The great news is that I was able to get rid of a plethora of ‘stuff’ during the first week of 111 things in 1/11. I went through my Christmas decorations and ended up finding lots of things that I haven’t used or no longer wanted.ย I also went through my shoes and cleared out and picked through some kitchen items that I don’t use.
Some things went to friends and other things filled the car to go to Goodwill.
Here’s what was purged in week one:
7 pairs shoes
3 plastic spray bottles
4 Christmas signs
1 cheese shredder
1 colander
1 bottle opener
1 Brita pitcher
11 kitchen serving utensils
2 silver candles
1 mini Ipod speakers
2 CDs
2 glass lanterns
1 blanket
4 rolls of organza ribbon
1 Christmas tin
2 baskets
3 tabletop trees
1 bag of snowflake ornaments
12 floral picks
Cosmetic case
4 strands of beaded garland
1 strand of candle lights
1 huge bag of ornaments (I’m going to count this as 10 since there are 10 different styles of ornaments, although there are about 100 ornaments in there, total.)
Total number of items: 76
So, that’s a killer first week, huh? And, it was so easy. Although it makes me a little sad because I had that much “junk” that I didn’t need. I feel like it didn’t even make a dent.
Now onto the bad news. Next week, I’m moving into the junk magnet, the office. If the rest of my house is clean, this room is just plain embarrassing. I think I’ll easily surpass 111 things by going through the office.
Oh my Lord.
What did you purge this week?ย

I’m so glad to know that the office is such a junk magnet for other people, too!

The best part about de-decorating is how much larger the house feels with the decorations gone. I made a massive goodwill run before the end of the year for the tax deduction and I love it when I”m able to finally see the floor of a closet again.

Good luck with the office! Most of my rooms not shown on the blog look like that, unfortunately.

Oh my, I have about 50 items so far and it was so, so easy. In fact, when we got home from our Christmas travels, we put a few gift items right into the box. I’m determined to get rid of all the excess stuff! I think it was Nester who posted about how each item in your home represents a piece of your time and money to store and maintain. That has really be resonating with me this month. Enjoy decluttering!

Thanks Kim for stopping by my blog. You did spy the same rug that you have its just in my moms house (she took my donations for me). I’d love to come help you organize your linen closet if we lived in the same state.

Your house is so clean! I bet the people who shop in your Goodwill love it when you make a donation. Wish I was there to snatch up those red shoes.

I am impressed and a little jealous that I don’t live closer to your goodwill! Good luck conquering the office clutter. Oh, and your kitchen rug is fabulous!

Wow. As usual, you blow me away. But – you got rid of snowflake ornaments? I don’t think we can be friends anymore ๐
Liz @ It's Great To Be Home says
You are way ahead of me!!! So far only 4 things have left my house, and they all went home with my mom – 2 packages of Kleenex, 1 box of Hello Kitty Bandaids and a Susan Boyle CD (don’t ask). But I did get the Christmas decorations down! Small victories, right? ๐
