What I love about gardens – you can see change everyday. What other hobby has such significant change on a daily basis? I swear, every time Ryan and I walk outside, we see something new. A new blossom, more leaves, flowers… it’s just really rewarding.
So, I thought I’d share a few select garden progressions, more for my sake than yours.
There was nothing in the corner of this May photo.
And, now this area is boasting a variety of squash – summer, winter and zucchini.
And, then in non-edible gardening news… there’s the rain garden.
In May 2009
July 2009
And, June 2010
(And you can ignore the yellow football, the messy mulch and the dog bowl… just pretend they aren’t there. We do.)
How is your garden growing?

Can I just say (again) that I am so envious of your mad gardening skills!?!?
Jenny @ Anything Pretty says
Wow….it filled in so quickly. I love seeing how much it can change it just a short time. You definitely have a green thumb! Can’t wait to see what another month brings!
Stephanie says
coooool! that is very rewarding seeing all that!
Jolie says
Wow your garden has done wonderful! I’m so amazed at all the great gardeners out there. I got a little discouraged this year. I planted my first garden and it didn’t do very well. Great job!
Jennifer says
Wow! I’m impressed. Our late June garden looks a lot like your early May garden. ๐
Robin says
Gardening is such a delight for me also. Right now my garden is in need of a serious weeding, but I think it will have to wait for the weekend.
Have you had the chance to pick any veggies from your garden yet. It looks like it’s growing very well under your loving care.
Amanda @ Little House on the Corner says
Holy crap, those veggies are growing fast! That’s encouraging if I ever decide to grow a garden… We planted some bushes and shrubs last fall, and although I wish they’d grow faster, they have gotten noticeably larger. I agree, it’s fun to watch! Oh, the things that excite us homeowners. ๐
Leigh says
My goal for the winter is to research garden stuff and be like you next summer.
Mom says
WOW! That’s what I say. Where in the world did you get your talent? Work full time……working towards your masters…..wonderful meals prepared for your husband each night.. raising two wonderful grand-dogs….and you still have time to invite your mom & pops for supper! What a daughter…I wouldn’t trade ya for the world. Garden looks FANTASTIC!
Megg says
Wow! Your garden looks great!! I agree, it’s so much fun to see growth every day! I check my plants thoroughly every day to see if something has changed, haha!

Kim – it looks great! I’m jealous though, because mine is not looking so hot now! :'( I still only have peas and my strawberry plants are completely brown, the squash and cucumber plants are withered, and only one zucchini is surviving. Booooooo. ๐
Amanda @ Serenity Now says
I like these posts, Kim. ๐ T never had a weekend off that was free enough this Spring to get our garden tilled up. So I will have to live vicariously through your posts. ๐

Your Garden looks so awesome and delicious!
We started making a Garden at the end of May and thus far have only Planted Plum tomatoes and ‘Better boy’ tomatoes. I also have an Oregano plant and a Rosemary plant. We have seeds for cucumbers, more tomatoes, Jalapenos and Bell peppers but we have to wait until July/August to plant them, according to their chart. Boo!
I also love your rain garden. Your yard looks very happy and cheery! ๐
Jenny @ DIY Newlyweds says
I wish I had a garden like yours! Excellent job, looks like you’ll have a lot of yummy food to eat this summer!
Emily says
Um, it’s definitely not growing like yours is. Holy moly Kim, you are talented.

Everything about your house is awesome. I love every picture I ever see of it, inside or out! You should TOTALLY open a B&B so I can spend the night. ๐

I dunno, Kim….I might have to do this next summer!Looks fun!
Cindy @The Flipping Couple says
Well, you know how my garden is growing, but seeing the photos of your rain garden is SO STINKING ENCOURAGING! Like, maybe my crabgrass will actually grow someday! Also, I love the last line about ignoring the football and dog bowl. I really do think we’re soul sisters. And your post about the tractor convinced me our menfolk would get along GREAT. So…..let’s be friends. : )
Jen@Notes From the Heartland says
Your garden looks just wonderful Kim!! I’m jealous…your tomatoes are giants compared to mine! And the rain garden…beautiful. Especially like the tall grass…I’ve always wanted to try that.
Jordan says
my favorite part about this post is “just pretend they aren’t there. We do.” ๐ I so often take a picture of something around my house or of my dogs just to realize that there’s something odd in the background. haha.
Kelli says
Your yard always looks amazing! Do you have to constantly pull weeds…how do you keep it so nice all of the time? And what is a rain garden? It looks pretty.
Mrs. Adventure says
Wow Kim! That garden is fabulous and now I may be a wee bit jealous… But hey nothings changed I’m still in love with your house LAST Christmas lol!
