I finished my scarf/neck warmer on Saturday. Of course, it’s been 40 and 50 degrees this week, which makes the scarf unnecessary. But, I’m not complaining. We love this balmy weather and the fact that the snow has finally left the building. And, the neck warmer could be a nice treat for next winter (although I have a sneaking suspicion I won’t need to wait – it is March in the Midwest).
It’s the same turquoise yarn I showed you in an earlier post. It’s just a simple double crochet. I closed it with some vintage suit jacket buttons I found at a local flea market (for .20). I think I’m in love.
And, now I’m moving on to a new project – granny squares. I’ve been wanting to make some, and my most recent lesson was learning to crochet in the round, so this is perfect practice. It’s so much simpler than I thought and I love that I can easily turn out a square in a short amount of time. It’s very satisfying.
I chose two delicious shades of heather brown/tan wool (they almost remind me of the color of sock monkeys). While some may think of granny squares as dated or frumpy, I love them, particularly in a solid, modern color. I’m using the “Color Bay Blanket” pattern from Stitch ‘n Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker.
Right now, I’m just pumping squares out like a machine. These were my first two squares, and I think I’m up to 8 or 10 squares now. They will probably end up as a scarf, although a throw or a pillow would be yummy. But, I’m not getting ahead of myself.
What are you working on?
And, here are other pretty granny square projects I found from Scrappy the Bandit on Flickr, in case you still don’t believe that it’s hip to be square. Although, I have to say that I love my squares more than many of these.
