When I was at Pottery Barn in Chicago, I happened upon this:
It’s a small, 5-year diary. Each page is for one day, with space for 5 years. It’s actually the same one that Elise got last year. I liked it then, too. So, I decided to pick it up. I hope it becomes a good exercise for me to reflect on my day before bed. More personal and detailed than the blog. So far, it’s been easy to keep up.
It’s much more “do-able” than other diaries, because it’s just a few lines. Pick the most memorable part of the day and jot it down. It’s been two weeks, so far. Some days are less exciting than others, but that’s okay.
This diary also attracted me because it reminds me of the diaries that Ryan’s Grandma Mellady kept. She kept them for many years and I had the privilege to look through some of them after she passed away. She was one of those people who you just love. I think this is kind of a neat way to connect to her, in a small way.
It looks like you can pick them up at Amazon as well.
Do you keep any kind of a diary?

I know I’m super tardy to the party for this one but I had to comment. I hope you’re able to keep it up! That’s a good exercise for you, and it can turn into something really neat. My great grandmother kept a ‘day-book’ like that every day. From her wedding in 1927 until her death in the 1980’s. While it’s mostly the weather and livestock info (farmers) it’s quite the family treasure now. Good luck!

What a perfect idea! It would be amazing to be able to look back and remember your thoughts and happenings.

Since my little ones have been born I have a little more trouble keeping up my journal….I’m just ready to collapse when I finally get to bed! BUT, prior I was able to keep a daily journal…it is amazing to look back through now…there are so many things you think you will remember, but don’t until reading it again. I do my best now…write every couple of days. Good luck! You will appreciate it if you keep it up.

I always want to, think about it and sometimes even try- but I’ve never lasted as long as you have. This one is cool though, I’ve seen the line-a-day books but they never seem like enough space- this could be a good in between. A few times I have bought the pretty, artsy calendars with a few lines a day to use as a journal. Hope you have luck keeping it up.

I like the do-ablility of the small space. It reminds me of the365 Project I did last year (a picture for every day)… a small snapshot of the day that will bring back a flood of memories.

I bought the same journal a couple of months after we got married thinking..oh, this is a fantastic plan. I’ll have the first 5 years of our marriage documented. but no, of course I can’t follow a simple plan. haha. I’ve only written in it a handful of times!
I really need to start back!
