I decided that 2010 would be the year, so I picked up the first book on Jan. 2. I battled a cold for the first two weeks of the month, which make snuggling in my chair and reading at night all the more appealing.
I just finished the last book. Couldn’t put them down. (The best part about waiting so long to read them is that I could get them all from the library and I could read the next book immediately after finishing a book.)
Such beautiful stories and characters throughout, with so much action and so much good. I’m definitely going to have to buy the set now.
Have you read the series? What did you think?

Your Harry post caught my eye, thought you would like a project I just did that gives a wink to my favorite books. He has a special place in our hearts too!

Dare I say, I love the HP series more so than Twilight (and you know I love me some hawt vamps). It just has so much more substance & layers to the story. JK Rowling astounds me w/ her creativity. To think, I resisted the series up until a couple yrs ago!
I believe the world’s divided into wizards, vampires, and humans. ::nods adamantly::

I am currently reading the first book, for the first time!! I was shocked to see your post about this, because I started the first one a week ago!
Kristen says
I’m super impressed that you finished the whole series that quick!! My goal is to read at least one book a month and so far so good. I have read all the Harry Potters and absolutely looked them!! Have you seen the movies, if not that would be a great movie marathon! Which book do you think was your fav??

I haven’t read these, but my 9 yr old has been going through them. I’ve been collecting them for him at thrift stores for about 30 to 50 cents each (paperback). It’s not too unusual to find them, so if you like to go to thrift stores, keep your eye out and save yourself a lot of $$!

DC got me the 2nd book for my birthday yesterday ๐

WOW! Way to go Kimmy! I wonder if all your blogging friends realize how much you can accomplish because you don’t sit in front of the TV! People always say, “I just don’t have time Kim. How do you do it?” I’ve never heard you mention that you only have channels 4,6 and 8 in your home. And I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve ever seen you watching any of them! (except an occasional Bears game with Ryan) It’s amazing what you CAN get accomplished by avoiding the boob-tube, eh? Once again, your mother is very proud of you! Make it a GREAT day sweetie!
Jenny @ Anything Pretty says
I never really got into them (or the Twilight series). Sometimes I think I am missing out but once I start a book I cannot put it down. I really get nothing.else.done. So I try to stay away from series so that I can function somewhat normally. I know…I am a weirdo:).

I LOVE Harry Potter!! I also love the movies.. but the books are much better!

Yes, yes, yes! Harry Potter is my favorite book series EVER. Although Twilight was good, it’s nothing compared to Harry Potter. There’s so much thought put into the series, so many layers in the plot and characters. Ugh, I just love it.
Kristen @ Miss Prissy Paige says
I LOVE Harry Potter. Ron is my favorite. Have you seen the movies? The books are way better, but the movies are so freakin cute!
Leigh says
I read the 1st one when it came out but wasn’t into it. But John ate them like candy.
micah @ the yellow front door says
Great books! The movies are good too, but they leave a lot out. I wish there were more!
Kimberly says
I have read it, and read it again, and I’m reading the last 3 books again! I can’t get enough.
Stephanie says
I love the Harry Potter series. I wish there were more of them!

I L-O-V-E Harry Potter. I started reading the books in high school. I dressed up as Harry for Halloween at school our senior year. Unfortunately there is a picture of that in the yearbook.
I’ve read books 1-4 at least 3 times and 5-7 at least twice. I went to 2 of the midnight releases for the books. A high school boyfriend gave me Harry Potter bookends for some event (graduation I think). One is Harry and one is Hermione (fittingly).
In writing this comment I realized that I have a Harry Potter problem. Now I’m going to lower my Harry Potter Freak Flag and go home. ๐

I started reading Harry Potter when I was in middle school and the last book came out right before I got married. I actually read the book to Hubby on our honeymoon — it was a lot of fun talking over dinner about what we thought was going to happen.
This summer I re-read all the books, most of which I had read more than once but a few I had only read once and I really liked seeing how my perceptions of the characters and situations changed from the first time I had read them.
So glad you enjoyed them!

My husband and I have both read the series (he read it twice), and I’m going to start again. They are indeed a wonderful series, and outdo the movies (as do most books) greatly. Amazing how fast you can read thousands of pages when you’re engaged, isn’t it?! ๐
The Brick Cottage says
I loved the Harry Potter series. I borrowed the first book from my 9 year old cousin after we saw the first movie and was hooked. It’s been a while since I’ve read them so it’s time for me to start re-reading them.
ashley morgan says
Love Harry Potter! You are hardcore to read them all in less than a month though! They may be kids’ books, but they’re loooong!
Amy@My Front Porch says
I’ve always felt like such a dork for this, but I LOVE the Harry Potter books. Glad to know I’m not the only adult out there who does ๐
Mrs. Adventure says
Ok this post was funny for two reasons. One I read all four twilght books in less than a month. Two my husbands joke to me the whole time was “is harry potter next?”. So like you I have never read them… but now that you have and you enjoyed them maybe I should! Ugh the hell I will catch from hubs. BTW I am doing a give-away on my blog go check it out!
Stephanie says
Girl I was all excited to write that I too had decided to read them in 2010 and I too started in January but um hello…I have only read the first one. Regardless, I love Harry.
Emily says
I’ve withheld from the Harry Potter craze and I don’t think I’m going to venture into it…but I said that about teenage vampires, too. So fun to have series to get lost in during this gloomy month of January.
Jordan says
I was all anti Harry Potter while everyone else was crazy about the books. Then the summer between graduating college and going to grad school I found myself laying around the house with nothing to do. I picked up my sisters Harry Potter book that was on the shelf, and read 1-7 in a little over 2 months- apparently you’re a faster reader than I ๐
I LOVED THEM (of course)! and I agree that it was awesome to read all in a row without having to wait. But now I find myself waiting for the rest of the movies to come out.
I even got my husband on the HP band wagon, but he listened to them all on his ipod. If you ever have a long road trip, I totally suggest Harry Potter on tape (or cd, or mp3, whatever) It’s even more awesome the second time around!
Okay, that’s enough of me ranting about HP. Sorry ๐
Jen@Notes From the Heartland says
Good for you Kim! I read the series when I was still in college….unfortunately while she was still writing them so I had to WAIT in between books. T.O.R.T.U.R.E. Loved them all. Can’t wait for my boys to be able to read them. Ours are well worn…been lent out to every family member now I think!
SarahKL says
Holy moly! I’m totally jealous you have the willpower to read 7 HUGE books in less than a month. I was proud of myself for two… ๐
I read HP 1-4, then re-read 3, re-read 4, started 5 and never got past the first 50 pages… so no, I have not finished them. Maybe a goal for me this year? (Once I finish the Narnia series, of course.)
Heather says
I haven’t read it but am thinking about it. They look really long though, but if Ican get through all those pages in the Twilight seris I can get through this.
