I’m tentatively planning to paint our dining room set this weekend! I’m going back and forth on color.
I am leaning towards black… I’ve always loved black sets.
(image from Rate my Space, pretty much our exact same table)
But, will that be too dark in the room?
But, then my mother in law mentioned white. And, I do love Emily’s white table. But… I don’t want to purchase new chairs yet, and I’m not sure about white chairs.
Is there another color I’m missing?
Here’s the dining room, to refresh your memory. And, now go vote in the sidebar! I need your expertise.

Black, for sure.
I’ve been on a black painting spree. And I love it. Fixing little chips is easy … You just grab your Sharpie.

I think black would be perfect. It’s so versatile and classic. It can be formal or casual, depending on the table settings.
Just my 2 cents, but if it makes the room a bit dark, perhaps change out the drapes for an ivory color to brighten things up?
Can’t wait to see what you do!

I vote for white, it will make the room more cheery and go with your trim and bring out hte colors in the rug more. Pain the chairs white too.

I voted black. We have a dark black/brown set from ikea and I love it. Although, in the interest of full disclosure, I’m not a fan of light woods.
I think with the style of furniture you have, it’ll make the set more more modern and less cottage (which is what I see the white doing). It’ll also help it to be less visually busy.
While it’s a very classic style, the chairs do have a lot going on – 8 rungs on the legs, finials on the tops, spindles on the back, carving on the head rest, little scoop braces on the side. I think black will unify all of that so your eye is drawn to the gorgeous windows. It’ll also tie in nicely with the black accessories you’ve got going on (curtain rod, frames, etc).

I vote white — or other.
1. Table white, leave the chairs the way they are but pick up the white in a seat cushion. (kelliebellie’s suggestion)
2.Paint the table base and chairs, leave the table top natural. (White or black)
3. Color! Soft buttery yellow? Dove grey? Eddie Ross blue? Red?
4. Mix it up! This is fun — http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3012/2882819640_6929e4064d.jpg
5. Is the table worth a lot of money? To be honest I really don’t see it as the type of table that should be painted. Could you sell it on CL and buy something more your liking, or cheaper that can easily be painted?
Can’t wait to see what you decide!

Definitely black!

I vote white with the chairs either the way they are or painted black.

I like the black and it goes with your room. I do like Emily’s white but you could always incorporate white into other things.

I vote for black! I think the black would give the room a more formal feel, and your table doesn’t take up the whole room, so even in a darker color, I don’t think the room would feel too small. I think the black would work better with the tones you already have in the room too.
I do like the idea of white, and I think it would work well too, if you decide to go that route. I might paint just the table white first, and leave the chairs in the natural wood tone.
Either way, I think it will look great!

I like black in a dining room because it adds a bit of drama! Plus, you could always add different colors to the room by changing the tablecloth, removing/replacing the rug, or hanging some new curtains.
Enjoy!

I think the black would look fabulous!

I’m voting for black, especially because your dining room has a lot of the same colors that the RMS room does. And you can always paint it white if it’s too dark – with several coats of primer and paint 🙂 I agree that it depends on what you’re going for – white gave me my casual mix and match beachy in Colorado I wanted, and I think black would look more formal. And I think if you added colorful seat cushions, the chairs would be fine white.

Here’s a link for inspiration – both black and white.

Black would definitely be more formal…and white more cheery!
I like both ideas – because they are so different. Good luck – this will be a hard decision.

I think the black would look great in your room. If you want to try white, I think that would work also and you could always just paint the table white, leave the chairs the way they are but pick up the white in a seat cushion.

I’m thinking white would be cute, and with white you can always leave the chairs the way they are. Very pottery barn with the mixing of colors. You see a lot of light woods with white.
The house is just too cute!
