Let’s just call June THE MONTH WE MOVED INTO THE NEW HOUSE AND ALL THE DREAMS CAME TRUE. (In all caps.)
Because that’s pretty much how I feel. I’m seeing rainbows and unicorns all around me. All the words are coming out in all caps. Here are a few highlights.
June highlights …
It was so hard to narrow down my favorite posts of June. Between Henry’s party and moving into the new house, we lots of completed projects. Here are a few favorites:
This year has really solidified in me the importance of friendships – both having wonderful friends and being one myself. And it’s something that I always need to practice.
I know this can be a hard thing find time for – finding time to talk to friends, connect with friends, and support friends through tough times.
But I feel like the hard things we’ve gone through this year has only re-ignited my passion for connection. This month, I tried my best to support friends going through hard times with words and actions. I also tried to stay connected with people I care about. That means making the call or sending the text, inviting people over, and sometimes swallowing my pride when I was wrong.
I’m sharing the books I read each month because I love to see what books people love and partially because I think reading actually does make me a less vile person – thus leading to my goal of kindness. Maybe it’s convoluted. The links with to the books are affiliate links on Amazon, in case you want to buy any of the books I’ve read.
I only finished one book this month – and it was an audio book. Not sure if that’s totally cheating. But I’ve hit 27 books read in 2016, so I feel like I’m totally on-target to hit 50 books during the year.
My favorite podcasts this month …
- Young House Love Has a Podcast – I listened to all the episodes this month, and I’d highly recommend this podcast for home decor lovers, Young House Love fans … and really everyone else. John and Sherry are engaging, funny and insightful. Also tune in for big name interviews (Sabrina Soto, anyone?)
Sharing the love …
When it comes to kindness, I want to be the person who encourages and uplifts the talents of others. Here are a few things I’ve really been inspired by this month …
- Beautiful dining room tour at Wood Grain Cottage
- Striped porch makeover at Angie’s List by Emily at Go Haus Go
- DIY bedroom reveal at A Home for Design
- Black and white room at Brooklyn Limestone
- Floral dresser by Averie Lane
Next month …
We are looking forward to spending more time together in our new house. It’s been such a trip to be together on the sofa or around the dining room table. It’s been fun to have people over to the house and enjoy low-key evenings together. (I missed entertaining so much and we have already had people over to the house four or five times. Making up for lost time.)
During July, I really want to enjoy time with family and friends. That means more entertaining, more family time, a little traveling and adventuring, and a lot less tech time. I want to be better about being present with my family and friends – that’s really the ultimate kindness, right?
What’s on your highlights list for June?
