Building a house has meant a LOT of scrap wood. Many of the smaller pieces get burned in our fire pit. But some of the larger scraps are just begging us to make something. So we have hung onto them.
And that’s what led to our new scrabble tile outdoor art. Because the best words are the big words!
I’ve seen a scrabble art popping up on the Interwebs for a while. Typically, these are made with lighter boards for easy hanging, but we had heavy-duty 2x12s on hand from our house rafters – so that’s what I used for this project.
And the size and girth is perfect for outdoor use.
But you can use any square boards you have. Make it work, people.
With just one cut on each board, we had four squares ready for finishing. I added the letters and smaller numbers in black vinyl after cutting on my Silhouette. (I used the Kalinga font, which I downloaded here for free.)
Finally, I sealed each square with poly. I wanted it to look a little shiny like real Scrabble tiles. The poly made the wood look much prettier.
After drying the tiles, I added wire on the back for hanging. They look so cute hung outside the barn door.
I am already planning out Scrabble words to display here all year long – NOEL, LOVE, LUCK, HOME, USA, and even our address (which is 4 numbers).
But for now, I’ll just enjoy FALL.

Super cute! They look so perfect. I thought you had engraved the letters. I was going to compliment you on your wood burning skills, but now I guess it’s your Silhouette skills that get my love!
