The roof is on (fire). No really, it’s just on.
Thank. Goodness.
This is one of the few things we hired out. The drop on one side is crazy. It’s really steep. So it was worth the few thousand dollars to have someone else do it.
In three days. It’s incredible to me that they can do the entire roof in a long weekend.
Of course, FINDING a person to roof our house ended up taking a small act of God. I called no fewer than 10 roofers and only received ONE QUOTE.
I know that people are busy right now with all the rain and roof leaks, but really? 1/10 for a quote?
Luckily, the person who actually deemed us important enough to get a quote was awesome. He came highly recommended by friends. And the owner and crew were super on the ball.
Highly recommend. (For locals, we used Sam Foley Construction. Not sponsored. Just really impressed.)
We chose Owens-Corning Duration Shingles in Storm Cloud. We had black shingles on the barn and wanted to go lighter – mostly because they just suck up the heat. And Ryan really wanted something with a variety of colors.
These shingles have a great mix of browns, grays, slates and even blues. It’s lovely in person. I think it could also go great with any color siding.
The roofers got done just in time for the windows to be delivered. WHAT WHAT?
So now our dream team is onto the next project. They got 9 windows in place the first night so I’m beginning to think they are actually not human.
Getting more and more weather-tight every day. I’m already subconsciously moving all my stuff in. We’re almost there, right?

In our neck of the woods we have Amish and Mennonite roofing crews and last Fall I was able to watch them do two very steep roofed church buildings in my neighborhood. I would have liked to have told them how great of a job they were doing but was afraid to since the wind was blowing like crazy. It did not deter them in the least. This may be a direction some might not think of when needing roof work. Happy for your progress on your new home.

Oh my goodness, its really starting to look like a house now! You know, its so funny that you had a 1/10 quote because when we were looking to scrape and finish our ceilings we had the same issue. To me, not even returning a phone call to say we don’t have time for the job or whatever is just bad business. There are plenty of people I wouldn’t recommend after that experience.
Anyway, yay for a new roof! Love seeing all the updates. It’s coming right along!
