If you are a DIYer like us, you know how all the supplies can get out of hand.
We tackled a lot of the organization last fall when we rehabbed and organized the barn garage space. This whole space has truly been amazing for us – we’ve never been so organized and we save so much time looking for tools and building materials. In short, this was a project that was worth its weight in gold.
- We added some awesome custom-built workbenches.
- We went through everything and organized it into labeled bins.
- We added a little wall storage in the form of PVC tool storage and nail storage.
But even with all that work, there have been some tweaks we needed.
So Ryan’s been working on utilizing some of the remaining wall space to add some storage.
Even though my dad built us a great wall-mounted storage for nails and screws, we had more than could fit in there. So, Ryan built a larger piece for the wall above his tool bench. Then, he went through everything and consolidated.
Now, he can find all the hardware he needs. And that means he doesn’t have to go to the store and buy ANOTHER box of nails, only to find the other three boxes an hour later. This is a small miracle.
We also desperately needed a solution for all the cords. Ryan found an old piece of solid barn wood and added large nails to hang all his power strips. It’s a great way to keep them from getting tangled or in the way.
As a side-note, we also hung this great clock that was in Ryan’s grandpa’s workshop garage. It looks so cool on the metal wall.
These are really simple ways to keep things organized in the garage workshop. It keeps everything off the group, it’s easy to find everything, and it doesn’t take lots of money. Everything Ryan built was made from extra wood and supplies.
Here’s a quick look at all of our storage solutions in the garage.

Our home is decorated from the ceiling to the floor. Then you step in the garage. It is a active DIY workshop/ occasional car resting place. But, we are lacking in the organization in that spot. Once it warms up I am going to go full force getting it back in order. These are great ideas!

Good luck! Our garage organization was a HUGE undertaking but it was so worth it. This is the most organized our space has ever been and I love that we can actually find what we need now.

Love every inch of it, it’s an adult playground with awesome texture and still can’t get over those walls. Can I move in?
