It’s been a while since a barn update. We’ve been doing more than just finishing the deck railings and making a barn quilt.
Here’s a few highlights, in case you are following along. (Sorry for the random nature of this post. We’re just all over the place lately.)
Ryan finished off the bottom of the deck with supports.
Before – he had used the temporary deck supports.
Now It looks so much more finished. And now those silly boards aren’t in the way.
In true Kim fashion, I now want to stop all the important projects and work on the area underneath the deck. Starting with leveling the ground, adding rock and painting that picnic table. That space is actually one of the nicest to use on a daily basis – it has coveted shade and a nice breeze.
On the inside, Ryan installed the kitchen cabinets. Which I have to paint. (See how my list keeps getting longer?)
We also decided to install two upper cabinets on the left side as a makeshift pantry. It will give us tons more space for foodstuffs. I kind of want to put another two of them in that area (which will also hold the kitchen table). But, we’re holding off for now.
This gave us a chance to get more use out of our fancy BLACK+DECKER AutoSense drill. Pssst: Don’t forget to enter to win one. (These links are sponsored.)
I seriously think the light on this is pretty rad.
I’ve also been working on painting the trim that hadn’t been painted. It was driving me crazy because it looked so unfinished.
As you can see, it’s not done. But the major ladder work on the front is done. And I decided to go with the same Behr barn red stain around the garage door and entry door. Progress.
And I did get up on a huge ladder, which I will prove to you by sharing the most unflattering photo on the Internet. There’s no way to Photoshop this to look good, friends.
I also finished up the trim painting on the back deck. I think I have chosen a color on the back door, so that will happen sometime, too.
Ryan’s buddy, Joe, stopped out to check on progress at the barn this month. For some reason, he didn’t wear his work clothes. But, as always, I’ll advertise that he’s single. You can contact me for more details and I’ll get you hooked up.
Oh, and did I mention that we have a well? WE HAVE A WELL. They tore up our yard and driveway while doing it because it was so wet. But I’m (almost) going to ignore that because having a well is a beautiful, beautiful (and insanely expensive) thing.
Now, we just wait for all the pump work to be completed so we can actually use the water. Small victories.

You guys are making huge strides! This is pretty exciting stuff!! I love the deck so much! It’s gorgeous. Your life is glamorous and exciting
Kim Woodward says
Ah, yes. The glamour. It’s almost unbelievable. (Says the woman in paint-covered yoga pants who has spent the week with a sick kiddo.) 😉
Sara says
Oh, you kill me with the unflattering photo! Ha! I will probably have a similar one when we paint our house. Your barn is going to be too nice to leave one day!
Kim Woodward says
Working in the 90 degree sun ain’t flattering. Ugh. So much sweat. And paint. And flub.
Moving on.
I think Ryan’s master plan is to make the barn so nice that he doesn’t have to build a house. I think he’s putting his eggs in a broken basket.

How old is Joe? My sister in law is also single, maybe we could get them to meet up?!
Kim Woodward says
31. Let’s make a love connection.
Aubrey says
I sent her his picture. Will let you know if she is interested in meeting up.
Amber @ Wills Casa says
Wow!! What incredible progress!! I was so interested in the well business. We don’t have one, but have talked about getting one for the lawn.
Lyndsey says
Looks amazing! It’s quite surprising what a little paint/stain can do to make a place look finished!
Anu says
The barn is coming along nicely! Ah! That ladder is so high! I’m scared to get on a step ladder. 🙂
Kim Woodward says
Hahaha…. I hate going up on a ladder, but I’m fine once I’m there. =)
Gretchen says
All of this is very impressive, but especially that part where you climbed up on a tall ladder. Eek! You are very brave :).
Kim Woodward says
It had to be done.
My kid actually got up five rungs before we even realized it. He wasn’t scared at all. I was petrified.

Yay! I’m practically giddy when I click on your bookmark every morning hoping to see lots of progress pictures of the barn and farm!! Don’t get me wrong, I love the Henry pictures, too, but OH, THAT BARN! Your land is a little slice of heaven on earth! More pictures!! Have a great day!
Kim Woodward says
Awww… thanks! I want to update more, but sometimes it’s hard to get photos of the progress that isn’t really “pretty” and just “necessary”
Ashley@AttemptsAtDomestication says
So much progress! It’s looking so good! Also you are a brave woman for climbing that ladder!
Kim Woodward says
I only do it because I know it wouldn’t happen otherwise.

you guys are making such awesome progress! i want to decorate the area under the deck, too! it’s so fun! and love the cabinet work! and NO ONE looks good from that angle, btw. we had to demo a petcam the other day, and jake wore it around…. then we watched the footage. i reached up to get him a treat one time, so his eyes were on me as i reached, turned away from him…. you can imagine what that looked like. money shot, right there. that’s definitely making the cut for tv.
Rachel says
No way you would EVER catch me up on that ladder. Kudos, Kim. The barn is looking fantastic!
Kim Woodward says
Yeah, I don’t love ladders either. But I did it. Go me.

I could never get up on a high ladder like that. I’m scared of heights.

Wow, what a difference! It looks great and I think the barn quilt really adds to it all. Love the red stain around the door too. Can’t wait to see the rest.
Kim Woodward says
Thanks, Shannon. Now I just need to FINISH the red stain. Ha.
