Disclosure: We are working with Behr to complete projects as a DIY expert. We will be provided with paint and stain to complete the projects. (Although in this case, we had the paint on hand from previous projects.) All opinions, as always, are our own.
I have a tendency to make things more difficult than they need to be.
I love the look of a piece of rustic barn wood in lieu of a table runner. And since we have a barn’s worth of old barn wood, I started with a piece from the garage that was roughly the length of our dining room table. (Which desperately needs to be repainted, by the way, but the weather just didn’t let it happen for this month.) I cleaned the plank of wood really well and then got to work customizing it.
I had a quart of Behr Premium Plus Ultra satin interior enamel in Ultra Pure White. This is the color I use on all trim, ceilings and woodwork in our house. Needless to say, I always have a few cans of this color lying around.
For this look, I simply taped off sections to paint. Because I wanted to see the wood grain, I put a coat of paint on the wood and then wiped it with a rag, which makes the color look almost whitewashed.
I also think adding some stain over the top would give it a great look. I may still do that. And here’s a sneak peek at my dining room decor. There is lots of glitz and glam, but I think the barn wood adds a rustic element.
I also love that this is something I could keep out all year.
I’ll be sharing more of my holiday decorations next week.
What do you think of using barn wood as a table runner?
