This is the story of a girl who took nearly four months to find the perfect pair of rain boots. It may have been painful, but this story has a happy ending.
In case it was unclear, I am totally that girl.
It started back in April. I had a birthday month and received a gift card to spend HOWEVER I WANTED. The possibilities! As was expected, I was paralyzed with indecision. Finally, after countless hours deciding, I determined that rain boots were the way to go. (Kidding. It only took a couple days to narrow down all my “wants.”)
I had a pair of cheap-o rain boots a few years back, but they finally bit the dust and stopped keeping water out. Which defeats the purpose of rain boots. I like them for normal wear in the rain as well as for working in the garden. As we get ready to spend more time at our property, I knew that I would wear the heck out of them as I’m wandering around in knee-high grasses.
So, I set off for the perfect pair of rain boots.
- I wanted something that was high quality, in hopes they will last me many years.
- I wanted them to be fitted for a woman – something a little more “shapely,” so to speak. In other words, nothing too “clompy.”
- I wanted them to be a cute color or pattern.
- I wanted boots that were made in America. (It’s sort of ironic to say this right after a series of posts on IKEA. But, I’m nothing if not insane.)
So, my little list is not so simple. Mostly that last one. I decided to expand my search beyond America, but I really did have my heart set on it. This was mostly because I was truly struck by the points in the book Overdressed and I’ve been trying to think through apparel purchases more than I did in the past.
Anyhow – I truly think I reached the end of the Internet trying to find the perfect boots. I went to stores far and wide looking for boots. I tried on more pairs of rain boots than I could count. I ordered several pairs and returned them.
In the end – I think I found THE PERFECT RAIN BOOTS.
Meet: My polka dot Sloggers.
I want to kiss these boots, I love them so much. Shall we review my must-haves?
- The quality is awesome. They seem to be very well-made and the material is nice. I am also loving how well they keep out water. They are truly waterproof.
- I love the fit of these boots – they are actually comfortable while walking and have a cushioned sole, which is ideal since I’m planning to wear them forever. (For reference, my sizing was right on. I didn’t have to go up in size.)
- Black polka dot? Sold. Adorable pattern, but I had a hard time narrowing them down from all the choices.
- These boots are actually made in the U.S. And I believe they may be the only such boots to be made domestically. Which is insane. And awesome.
Not to mention – these boots were a fraction of the cost of the other boots I considered. My other top two contenders were Hunters (China) and Kamiks (Canada). These were about a third the price of Hunters. Plus, neither option fit well at all. My poor calves are scarred from all the trying on.
The Sloggers were recommended to me by my awesome friend Jen from Onion Grove Mercantile. At first, I actually avoided ordering them because I wanted something knee high. However, after I tried on tons of knee-high boots, I knew the shorter boots would be ideal. They are much more comfortable and not nearly as hot and sweaty to wear. The top of the boots still go over my jeans, which is perfect for working at the property. I call these my tick-avoiding boots. Not really. But they do.
So, that’s my quick review. I had a hard time finding any information about quality rain boots while I was on an exhaustive search of the world wide web, so I thought I’d share in case anyone’s as insane thorough as I am. If you are looking for comfortable, high-quality women’s rain boots that are Made in America, I think you’ll be happy with these.
And it’s probably worth mentioning that this is not a sponsored post. I purchased these boots on Amazon with a birthday gift card. It only took four months, but I finally decided on my birthday gift. 😉

Those are cute! I’ve been thinking that I should get a pair of rain boots before our trip to London. Definitely looking into these!
Kim@NewlyWoodwards says
These would be great for London because they are pretty comfy to walk in, too.

How freakin’ cute are those?!?!? I think they are perfect. I love the polka dots (can’t go wrong with polka dots) and the fact that they are made in the USA is even more amazing!! (I’m hanging my head in shame at my expensive Hunters made in China. At least they were a present and I didn’t buy them myself, right?!?! Can we still be friends?!?)

I don’t judge you for your boots. And the Wellies are adorable.
Friends.

These are much, much cuter than my boots haha! My rain boots were purchased to wade through streams/creeks (the joys of working for a water department!). They are horribly ugly and uncomfortable, but they keep my feet dry. Maybe I can convince our safety guy to let me get a pair of cute boots like these! 🙂
Kim@NewlyWoodwards says
I think it’s totally a work-related expense.

I think you should have photographed them in the rain. That would have shown true dedication. Off to check them out. Because I need rain boots like a hole in my head….BUT THEY ARE SUPER CUTE!!!
