(This is one of a few more detailed posts to come about projects I completed in Henry’s nursery. I know. It never ENDS.)
I love the pillows in Henry’s room. I’ve never felt comfortable mixing lots of patterns when decorating, but I knew that Henry’s nursery was a chance to find lots of fun fabrics and bring them all into the space.ย
Originally, I planned for the bed to be more of a daybed (with the long side of the bed along the wall). But, I like the current layout better, so the daybed idea went out the window.
That meant that I had tons of leftover fabric because I didn’t need to make nearly the number of pillows I originally planned. But, it also meant a lot less work. (Score!)
I ended up making four pillows and I kind of love them. I used old throw pillows as inserts instead of buying new ones. This really made the project inexpensive. The great thing about making pillows is that it’s super quick and easy. Plus, it doesn’t take much fabric.
I made 3 of the 4 pillows with an envelope back. (I didn’t use a pattern, but if you are looking for one, this one from A Sewing Journal should fit the bill.)
Here are my fabulous four.
Leftover curtain/bed upholstery fabric into a long pillow (Dwell Studio Bella Porta). (The H pillow is from Lands End – thanks to Lauren at Life Uncluttered for the gift card. The blue quilted pillow is from Pottery Barn.)
This polka dot fabric may be my favorite (Pimatex Basics Polka Dot). I don’t know why, but I just love it. The houndstooth pillow is made with the leftover squares from the houndstooth quilt. And I have tons more, too. But, I need a break from houndstooth for now. (For the houndstooth pillow, I just filled it with batting and made it a custom size.)
And finally, the zig zag pillow on the rocking chair (Premier Prints Zig Zag). Not only is the pattern pretty, but the placement of the pillow is perfect for a little back support while rocking away.

Just caught up on all your posts. HIs room is gorgeous, and I’m so glad that your mom is able to keep Henry. That does make for a nice transition.

You’re right, the nursery is like the one place to go freakin nuts with stuff. And you’ve totally made it all work, I dig this room so much!
A friend of mine makes these cool floor reading nook things by sewing bed pillows together into a bed sort of thing? I feel like it would be awesome for a tot once they start hanging out on their own.

I just love it! Such great color/fabric combos and just the right amount of “stuff”. I’m always at such a loss when it comes to decorating. All the rooms in my house still look a bit empty.

Did you make the Boppy cover, too? I haven’t seen solid covers yet.

I love your mix of patterns and colors in here! You used red, white and blue but it definitely doesn’t look cheesy nautical or patriotic, how do you do it?!
