Well, I survived my first week back to work. Thanks to all my “virtual friends” for the words of support and encouragement when I went back to my day job. My ten weeks home with Henry went by in a bit of a happy blur. But I think I’m beginning to embrace my role as “working mom.”
I’m so thankful for my mom who is watching Henry during the day (until November, when they go back to Arizona for the winter). This made the transition back to heels and hose a lot easier than it could have been. She even comes to my house in the morning, so getting out the door with a baby isn’t something I have to worry about.
I don’t worry about his well-being at all. In fact, he’s probably getting more lovin’ than he knows what to do with. I get picture text messages from Henry nearly every day, and I am thankful I can pump at work and provide for him while I’m away. He’s clearly not lacking in the milk department. (I love those rolls.)
The first day was the worst, I may have even had a bit of a melt-down. But each day has gotten a little better. (Day one and day two)
I’m also learning to make the most of the time I have with him at home. I do very little of anything that pre-baby Kim would have considered productive in the evenings. (No blogging, crafting, painting …) But, it is productive to post-baby Kim. We snuggle. We play. We walk. He eats and eats and eats. It’s pretty heavenly. I cannot speak for everyone, but I actually think I may appreciate this time with Henry more now that I’m back to work.
Weekends have also changed considerably. Here are a few snapshots from our fun weekend.

So glad that going back to work has been okay! You really are lucky that your mom can watch Henry during the day.
Aww. So sweet!! It is nuts how much you we value our post work time with SS now too. Can we discuss how great you look?
Oh, I’m so glad your mom is able to stay with lil’ Henry. It must have given you so much comfort when you went back.
That sunflower is GI-NORMOUS!
Your family rocks…
This post is gushy and mom like…but I still like you and your cool kid. Would you be available for lunch on Friday?
I also had a pretty smooth transition back to work because my Mom watches Rowan. She also comes to our house. It is so nice not having to get Rowan ready in the morning, even letting her sleep if that’s what she’s doing. It definitely made me feel easier going back to work. I am glad you get that same reassurance.

So cute- you have an awesome little family. And how awesome that your mom is there to watch him for you during the day- can I borrow her?!?
It sounds as if you are making the work adjustment quite well. So happy that you have your mom around to care for Henry. I am sure that makes the transition so much better. And you look adorable in those work pics, too. Way to rock it, momma!
I LOVE that last picture of the three of you….you are beaming!!
I’m so glad work is going well, and your mom is so sweet to come and watch Henry. I imagine that is such a load off having her there! Enjoy all your precious moments with him…can you believe how fast they grow?!?!
Yay for surviving the first week! I’m glad that it went semi-smoothly for both you and Henry. You are so lucky that your Mom can watch Henry for a few months while you transition back into work. Seems like life is good!
I’m glad your adjusting to being a working mommy! I loved being home with Avery, we spent 4 blissful months together that went by way to fast! The first week was so rough for me, getting the hang of pumping at work and missing him like crazy!
My mom watches Avery too and comes to our place too, makes it so much easier and she loves spending time
with him.
Enjoy all your time with him, they grow so fast! Some days i just wanna freeze time to remember every moment
I’ve got a week and a half left at home. I’m scared. You look great, do you work in a doctor’s office? Just curious!
If it makes you feel any better, you look FABULOUS!
hang in there,
~Leah
Great job on getting back into the swing of things! It must be SO hard leaving your little one the first day
I don’t have kids (yet!) and I’m already dreading going back to work haha.
P.S. Your work clothes are so cute!! You look great.
I’m so glad it’s going well!!! How awesome to have your mom offer to watch Henry – great for everyone! You look wonderful!
Cooler & fuller are good!
I know everyone always said, “you’ll never know love until you have a baby”….but it’s so much more than love!
What a blessing to have your parents there to help out.
So glad the transition is going well for you and that your mom is there to help. And you can’t beat those picture updates throughout the day!
i’m glad it’s getting easier – i imagine that’s such a difficult thing but i’m so glad your mom is watching him – probably makes it a little easier on you!
and you guys always seem to do so many fun things! i love following your instagram photos
That picture of Henry with Molly is HILARIOUS. He’s like “Who IS this chick?! Don’t be getting any ideas mom and dad!”
You look great! Today was my first day back and it went pretty well. I suprised myself by getting all three kids dressed, fed and out the door about 5 minutes earlier than planned. I did have spit up on my shoulder though. My husband is so happy to have something to talk about other than how many times the baby ate and peed!
So glad you survived your week back to work. It is so difficult to balance everything- but I have for sure had to learn- the mess can wait! Spend your time with that sweet little one!
And it really does get easier each day! {i’m so jealous you don’t have to rush out the door with a baby! that part makes me late every single day!}
This post makes me feel better about having to go back to work after our little one arrives. Thanks for admitting to mini melt down on the first day. I know tht will be me but it’s so comforting to know that ech day it got easier. (sorry for the typos. This is the one time my iPhone isn’t autocorrecting
Well, you look fabulous! (Did you find that BF has helped you lose some baby weight? I hear it’s the best!) And how wonderful that Henry is getting so much love from Grandma!
I’m so proud of you for rocking the working-momma role! You seem to be wearing it well- you look amazing! And so does Henry, so you know you’re doing something right : ) What a happy, loving family!!! xo
I am so glad the transition is going ok… And Kim! Look at you in that last picture, you skinny minnie!!!!
