Dare to … entertain! (Week 2/6 link-up)

Welcome back to the second week of Dare to DIY – and this week it’s all about entertaining and setting our tables.

Dare to… entertain!
Show us your table! Even if you are not hosting Thanksgiving, take this opportunity to make your table look great. Bring out your dishes and napkins and set your table. I promise you that it will make you smile every time you walk by. Get creative and use new things. Or go true DIY and make something totally new.

So, first, here’s what I came up with …

An untraditional holiday table…

Because I wanted to coordinate the holiday decorations with our dining room decor, I think I’m going to use silver, yellow/gold and turquoise for Christmas. And since we’ll be out of town for Thanksgiving, I thought now would be a good time to test the color scheme. I think I love it.

For my DIY aspect, I rolled the votives and taper candles in epsom salt to give them a snow-kissed look. (Easiest project ever.) They really turned out pretty – perfect for winter.

I had pretty much everything on-hand. I did buy the teal Christmas ornaments and the silver scarf, which I’m using as a runner. (And which I plan to wear as well.)

The plates I purchased last April from Crate & Barrel are finally put to use. I added a teal ribbon and a silver charger.

While not at all Christmas-like indivdually, it still feels very festive when placed together.

I placed the mirror I painted a few weeks ago in the center of the table and added a bunch of silver pinecones and ornaments around the candles.

So the Woodward household has officially transitioned from fall to winter… at least at the dining room table.

Now, to the good part…

What did you DARE to come up with?
A couple of guidelines:
1. Please link to the specific post, not your general blog address.
2. Please stick to the topic for the week. I’ll be very flexible, but please try to stick to the weekly theme. I will remove posts that are basically just spamming. You are welcome to link to past posts that fit the theme.
3. Please visit at least one other blog below and comment! This will help us all meet each other. This is really the most important part of this party and what has made it extra unique and fun in the past.
4. Please link your post back up to NewlyWoodwards with text or this button within the post. Just pull the code from below.

  1. i LOVE that!!!! i have recently been obsessed with the gray/yellow/turquoise color combo, and this is so close to that! i think it’s great that it’s non-traditional. you did a fantastic job! i’m glad to hear the epsom salt trick is easy – been wanting to try that.

(ps- it’s a good thing you are hosting this or i would never have a post to post anymore these days!)

  2. Kim – I love it! Not just because our wedding colors were gray/yellow/turquoise, but because its “untraditional”. We have a white Christmas tree and decorate with “untraditional” colors. I love those yellow and white plates from C&B.

Augusta doesn’t have C&B. Its super sad – I’ll have to live vicariously through you!

  3. Kim, you are a genius! I love the color combination and I am loving the use of Epsom salt. I need to pin every picture on this page. I am so happy your new dining room is being put to such good use!

  4. You are so right, all those colors separately don’t say holidays, but put them all together, it screams festive! Love it!!

  5. I love that color combo – so neat :)

I won’t be linking up this week because we are fully in the swing of Christmas prep around here and ate every meal this weekend at our coffee table – not exactly DIY worthy place settings :) See you next week though!

  6. I really love your non-traditional table. The teal is so pretty! Love the epsom salt candles – I’ve seen that on Pinterest, and I definitely need to try that! Have a very happy Thanksgiving!

  7. I love how you added salt to the candles, how cool is that? It looks so pretty! Thanks again for hosting this link-up!

  8. ooooo LOVE the teal/yellow combo! It looks awesome! The ribbon is a great idea too. Looks great!

  9. Love this combo!!!! And the epsom salts on the candle holders- genius. How did you get them to stick? I need to try this once I set our table for Christmas :)

  10. I totally forgot to comment on this last night. I was commenting to Nate on how this is how you were supposed to set a table. He nodded.

I LOVE the color combo…and those epsom salt candles are perfect!! I’m pumped to see the rest of your Christmas decorating magic.

  11. Every time I see epsom salt on candles I smile. I love it, and your colors look awesome as usual :o )

    XO.

  12. Love love love! The yellow plates and teal ribbon are unexpected this time of year but PERFECT! I participated this week! And I’m having trouble with the linky – so I either entered it twice or not at all, but it won’t let me try again…

  13. I really and truely could not love a table more than this one. The color combo is genius and way to go on the epsom candles. Please puhlease tell me what you rolled on the candle first to make them stick. And hmmm, think you can dye salt to make it another color? I’m dying for it to be mint green.

  14. Oh my goodness! I’m drooling over your scarf/table runner! I love the texture that it adds!

And the epsom salt candle trick? So neat! Makes everything look fancy.

I really think the color scheme you chose perfectly compliments your dining room as a whole. Great job, Kim!

  15. Your table is beautiful! I am into all things teal these days.

  16. I ADORE those yellow plates!! What a beautiful table. :)

  17. It’s so elegant!! I love the pinecones, the color scheme, and the epsom salt votives! The layering of textures is just fabulous! Great job, Kim!!

  18. Love the everything about this! I am going to have to try the epsom salt project- yours look even better than the ones I’ve seen on Pinterest. Well done!!

  19. I really love your tablescape! This year I am doing a ‘peacock’ theme for our table. Untraditional but so pretty. Great job!

  20. I like your nontraditional blue. I actually have some candles and a box of epsom salt sitting on my craft table just waiting for me to find time.
