Welcome back to the second week of Dare to DIY – and this week it’s all about entertaining and setting our tables.
Dare to… entertain!
Show us your table! Even if you are not hosting Thanksgiving, take this opportunity to make your table look great. Bring out your dishes and napkins and set your table. I promise you that it will make you smile every time you walk by. Get creative and use new things. Or go true DIY and make something totally new.
So, first, here’s what I came up with …
An untraditional holiday table…
Because I wanted to coordinate the holiday decorations with our dining room decor, I think I’m going to use silver, yellow/gold and turquoise for Christmas. And since we’ll be out of town for Thanksgiving, I thought now would be a good time to test the color scheme. I think I love it.
For my DIY aspect, I rolled the votives and taper candles in epsom salt to give them a snow-kissed look. (Easiest project ever.) They really turned out pretty – perfect for winter.
I had pretty much everything on-hand. I did buy the teal Christmas ornaments and the silver scarf, which I’m using as a runner. (And which I plan to wear as well.)
The plates I purchased last April from Crate & Barrel are finally put to use. I added a teal ribbon and a silver charger.
While not at all Christmas-like indivdually, it still feels very festive when placed together.
I placed the mirror I painted a few weeks ago in the center of the table and added a bunch of silver pinecones and ornaments around the candles.
So the Woodward household has officially transitioned from fall to winter… at least at the dining room table.
Now, to the good part…

i LOVE that!!!! i have recently been obsessed with the gray/yellow/turquoise color combo, and this is so close to that! i think it’s great that it’s non-traditional. you did a fantastic job! i’m glad to hear the epsom salt trick is easy – been wanting to try that.

Kim – I love it! Not just because our wedding colors were gray/yellow/turquoise, but because its “untraditional”. We have a white Christmas tree and decorate with “untraditional” colors. I love those yellow and white plates from C&B.
Augusta doesn’t have C&B. Its super sad – I’ll have to live vicariously through you!

I really and truely could not love a table more than this one. The color combo is genius and way to go on the epsom candles. Please puhlease tell me what you rolled on the candle first to make them stick. And hmmm, think you can dye salt to make it another color? I’m dying for it to be mint green.
