I may have intentionally held off on posting photos of the so-far kitchen. Because there are several things I want to finish. Like…
- Making and installing open shelves in between the windows. (Ryan is “searching” for his tile drill bit. And I’m lazy.)
- Putting up my chalkboard. (Which is still sitting in the basement. And I’m lazy.)
- Painting the back door – black? red? (I’m indecisive. And I’m lazy.)
- Getting things organized so I can show you how awesome the inside of the IKEA drawers and cabinets are. (But I’m lazy.)
I made very simple lined curtains with fabric I had on hand. I love them! Here they are closed. They are from Bliss in Bloom Scarlet by Bonnie and Camille for Moda. The fabric is a quilting cotton, but with the liner, they hang beautifully. Love the vintage look of the floral pattern.
The rugs are the Capel Willoughby Red/White Indoor / Outdoor rug purchased at Wayfair (which was actually CSN when I ordered the rugs). The rugs are really beautiful and clean up fabulously. I just vacuum them and they look like new. Which is important when you have lots of mud tracking in on paws and feet. You can also take them outside and rinse them, which I haven’t done yet. They are reversible. And they are USA-made! Score!
Here’s the other side, with the fridge. I didn’t even remove the junk on the side of the fridge. This is real life. (Do you spot Jenny’s cutie pie Carter? And the sunshine hoop art by Shannon?)
The key holder is so handy. It was a gift from our friends Jon and Ann for throwing them a shower, and is by Longaberger. I need to pick up the little baskets to put on the shelves. Since we don’t have a drop zone by the back door, this is a lifesaver.
I didn’t have enough of the window fabric for the back door, but I had this coordinating Scarlet Medallion fabric in the same Bliss line. And I like it.
I use a simple strip of fabric to tie the curtain back.
I just set my “life is short, eat dessert first” signs on top of the windows. (These are simply cabinet doors I bought from a local kitchen store – they were old display cabinets. I added the vinyl words.) And do you spot the bathroom towel ring mounted on the cabinet? This is genius. And something I originally found on Pinterest.
And let’s check out the progression of this room in the past year.

Love the kitchen progress!! Where did you find your cabinets? What are they made of? White subway tile with gray grout looks awesome. Ps. I searched the blog for ‘kitchen’ and it said no results found. I clicked through a few pages but thought you’d want to know!

This just may be my favorite room in your house. Which is saying something as I think that every time you post a so-far room. My favorite things? The fabric, the cabinets, the counter, the paint, the backsplash etc. etc. Oh and that cute baby on the fridge. Might have to be the best part in my humble opinion!
Katie @ On the Banks of Squaw Creek says
Amazing transformation, Kim! Love the towel ring idea and the blue walls! And I adore the fact that you left the doors stained.
KellyH says
I love your kitchen! Those curtains are too cute! Now I have to go find those rugs!!

Looks GREAT! But I don’t see a coffeepot. How do you and Ryan get so much done sans cafe? Share the secret, LOL!

Another lovely room!
We’ve been talking for … oh forever … about ripping out our hideous 80s ceramic tile countertops and installing butcher block. (But we’re lazy.)
How do you like it?
Breanne says
I’m so in love with this, incredible! I loooove white cabinets and butcher block counters. I’m constantly impressed by how much you guys accomplish, if you could only bottle that ability!
Kristen @ Miss Prissy Paige says
First off – YOU are NOT lazy. Have you read your blog? Hello – you’re in the process of renovating a SECOND house!!
Love the new kitchen – especially that towel holder – genius. Isn’t Pinterest amazing.

Those rugs are awesome. Seriously. And those curtains? Love them.
Chelsea @ {twotwentyone} says
Wow! Fantastic transformation! I love the curtains above the sink– great print!
Leigh says
Looks great- as always. You have the best fabric and rugs. I’m too impatient to order fabrics, so I just go with what’s at Joann’s. Why are rugs so stinking expensive? Can’t wait to see the organization.
Kelly @ Corner of Main says
It looks great! If you are lazy I don’t know what I am…lol. I am so jealous of all your new cabinets and countertops. Beautiful! I especially love your sink =)
Tara @ Tara Being Tara says
As always, I love EVERYTHING. I’m going back and forth on the door color. Maybe black? Red would be cool, but would it take away from your other awesome red accents?
Where did you get your countertops?? That’s exactly what we want in our kitchen re-do!!

Love your kitchen! The rug is super cute with that pop of color. Can’t wait to see the shelves.

Um, I think I’m showing this to my hubby to be like “SEE! Butcher Block counters are what I want with my wood floors, green walls, and white cabinets!” I’m also probably going to try and buy that rug. In Blue.

one thing i love about your style is that it’s so chic, but also so comfortable. You don’t feel like you are in the middle of a design showroom that you can’t mess up…it feels like design that real people live with. Those rugs are amazing…they really pop everything out. And the sink…I just can’t get over how much i love it!
Rita/Fighting Off Frumpy says
You. AMAZE. Me.
Consistently.
No wonder the puggies couldn’t stay out of the kitchen. I think I’d be tempted to just haul a pillow and blanket in there every night!
Kat says
Holy Moly Sister! What a difference! This is one of those times where the word “aghast” truly is appropriate and necessary. Love your new kitchen, LOVE the curtains and fabric you used, and can see why your furkids don’t want to leave for an instant. There is no way in h-e-double hockey sticks you are even remotely in the lazy classification, either (and oh, just for the record, I vote for a zingy red door, but I’m biased–I confess, red is the accent color in our kitchen–heee…).

I love everything about your kitchen, but especially those rugs! They make such a statement and they are beautiful!

I think that the transformation and progress is astonishing! Did you do a tutorial on those lined cafe curtains? Did you attach the liner to the fabric, or are they just another layer? Just curious. 🙂
