Last weekend, we finally had grillin’ weather. I was psyched for it… until I opened the grill.
Looks to be a robin’s sparrow’s nest. (Post edit: I mixed that up.)
A very large nest at that. With fourย five little eggs. (Post edit: I can’t count, clearly.)
Luckily, our neighbor allowed us to use her grill, so everyone was happy! And the birdies will stay safe. ๐
I just hope the babies hatch soon so we can clean out the grill and get grillin’. Guilt-free.

This is hilarious! And it totally happened to us twice this year…. cute but annoying! I went to plant my flowers on the front porch using the planters I always do and found baby bunnies living in them. Couldn’t bring myself to make them move either. And then when my husband went to clear out the dying/dead pansies from our flower baskets he found a birds nest! It looks awful and they don’t seem interested in moving anytime soon….. Glad it’s not just me!
Our Little Beehive says
That is so cool! Glad you’re able to leave them there, but I hope they don’t come back next year.

I just found a cardinal nest in my rose bush. I think there are 4 eggs.

You are MUCH nicer than I am…especially with sparrows!!
I also have a bird phobia so I’m all about doing away with bird nests!

That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen!! I love it!

How sweet, yet annoying at the same time! Good thing you have awesome neighbors who will let you use their grill. ๐

That is too funny! We closed off our addition over the winter to save on heat and now I’m pretty sure there are all kinds of bird nests in there. And possibly under the floor of the nursery. Should be interesting when we open it back up!

can’t be robins — those eggs, adorable are they are, aren’t that wonderful shade of robins-egg-blue. =)
hopefully your birds are good neighbors! it’s always nice to have barn swallows around, for example, because they keep the mosquitos down. but i think they like to nest in high spaces — ours were on top of the light that hung from the eave over our garage. still, fun neighbors! (and nice of your human neighbors to let you use their grill!) =)

We have a vintage travel trailer that we are fixing up and found a very large nest in it. I cant wait till they hatch and leave so we can finish working on it.
emily @ the happy home says
what a smart little bird! those eggs are just so gorgeous. love that you used the neighbor’s grill rather than disturb the peace ๐

I think robin’s eggs are blue. Out here the flower baskets are full of eggs that look like that and they are quail eggs. There are little baby quails running all over the place. It must be the season for hatching!
Emily @ thirtyeight20 says
That happened to us too during our first grilling session of the season — but when S opened the grill, the mama bird flew out and tried to attack him!!!
He checked for eggs and didn’t see any, so he cleaned it out and then fired up the burners as hot as they would go to “sterilize” the grill. (Unfortunately we did find some eggs in the pile of twigs he cleared out — they had been buried so he couldn’t see them. Sad.)

What a fun thing to find and thank goodness for your neighbors. This happened to my parents grill when we were younger. It was fun to see the eggs, but I am sure they just wanted to use the grill.

Wow! That must have been quite the surprise!
Biz says
She must have built that nest quickly!
So cool to be able to watch these little ones hatch and learn to fly ๐
Enjoy!
