“Bring on the sweatshop!”
Ryan has had work jeans to mend for… um…. forever. At least a year. And they are kind of a pain, so I’ve never done them. (Plus, I was kinda hoping they would just end up in the garbage.)
Finally, he decided he could just do it himself. First, he tried hand-sewing, then I started them on the machine and he decided he could do it himself. (Which was good, because Glee was on.)
The whole time, I’m hearing: “BRING ON THE SWEATSHOP!” Then silence.ย ย “BRING ON THE SWEATSHOP!”ย Over and over.
After patching two pairs of jeans, he strutted into the living room with the jeans held over his head in victory (thank goodness it was during a commercial).
He said: “You know, it really is true what they say. ‘Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.’ Only, it’s for mending pants.”
And, that, my friends, is priceless. Because now Ryan can patch his own pants for a lifetime.ย
Happy Friday!

This is the most awesome thing I’ve seen in a long, long time.
Maybe he can talk to my husband?
I’ve repaired his “weekend” jeans like 3 times in the last two months…

hahaha- the best part is that you stopped watching Glee to take this photo, but didn’t want to stop to sew yourself. Totally a move I’d make.

Love this post! I feel the same way about shirts that are missing buttons!
Sara @ Russet Street Reno says
Wow, that is awesome! I just use the iron on patches because I don’t have a sewing machine and I don’t care to learn how to use one! ha

You are a lucky woman!! I want to send my husband this post . . . but I think he would somehow miss the hint. ๐

I’m impressed! A man who is willing to tackle the task of mastering a sewing machine! And allowing you to watch Glee while he does it! Now you’ve just got to get him to mend your jeans, and you’ll never miss Glee again! Hehe.

You’re a smart girl teaching your husband these things!! ๐

You’re brave. I wouldn’t let my husband touch my machine with a ten foot pole!

I’ve been reading your blog for quite some time, but have never commented. Your story reminded me of when my husband (then boyfriend) took it upon himself to mend a hole in his pants. Instead of using a patch, however, he attempted to do it with just thread and the end product was all puckered and funny looking. It was very cute.
Thanks for your cute blog!

Ha! We made 200 napkins for our wedding a couple years ago and my husband sewed them all while I pre-ironed the seams. He kept telling me he had it under control ’cause he made a stuffed soccer ball in middle school. Where do you think his board shorts that need repair have been for the last year? Yep, waiting for HIM to fix them ’cause he’s “got it under control.” Sucker ๐

That is hilarious!!! Before I got a sewing machine, my husband used to fix his work uniforms with glue. I highly doubt I could get him to use the sewing machine though!

Ha ha… I love you guys you crack me up. High five Ryan for me – and dang it this post reminds me I need a sewing maching :+)

Great job Ryan! Around here, we’re out of luck when it comes to stuff like that – I can barely sew on a button, and Curtis probably doesn’t even know how to thread a needle. Although he does know how to knit, which took me by complete surprise … so who knows what tricks he’s got up his sleeve!
karen @ our slo house says
Ha! Ryan doesn’t know what he just did. Now you NEVER, EVER have to mend his pants, because he can do it himself. (Sometimes it’s better not to learn how, because then the other person kind of has to do it!) Why do you think I’ve never learned to barbeque? ๐

Ha! I love it. Nice work, Ryan!!

I was laughing reading this. My husband just watches when I sew something. Now I know there is hope and he can fix his old pants!
