In a handful of months (fingers crossed), we’ll be getting the house ready to sell. That also means packing. Duh-duh-duh… the dread has already begun in this process. Because as much as I’d like to say we live simply, we have a lot.of.stuff. A LOT!
In preparation of the move, I’m beginning to work on purging the house of things we don’t need or use. It’s going to be a process, but I was thrilled when Jenny at Words on Wendhurst told me about her “111 things in 1/11” project.
Essentially, the project encourages us to get rid of at least 111 things in the first month of the year. That’s only about 28 things a week.
Did you hear that? It’s my husband, jumping and singing for joy at the prospect of getting rid of so many things. He’s in his height of glory right now. He would live in a 10 by 10 hut with nothing but one change of clothes and a Brita pitcher if I would let him.
Anyhoo… now that the house is clean and rid of all traces of Christmas, it’s a perfect time.
I’m planning to work my way through the house this month. I’m beginning with the Christmas decorations.
Then, I’ll move on to the office (a’la junk pit), the closets and the kitchen. If I have time, I’ll work on the basement, too.
I’m going to ask myself these questions:
- Have I used it in the past 6 months?
- Do I even like it?
- Is there room to store it?
Will you join me? Let’s declutter to start the new year.
