My friend Jen at Home in the Country recently posted her banker’s chair makeover. And, I about had a heart attack and died. At age 26.
I’ve been wanting a new chair for our desk in the office, and this was exactly what I had been looking at. Only, I’d been lusting over them at Pottery Barn, JCPenney and other retail stores. But, now I decided I too needed to find a old-school bankers chair. It would look much better than the chair we were currently using in the office. The desk deserved better.
Thank goodness I didn’t die, because after I showed Ryan Jen’s chair, he found a similar one on Craigslist the next day. Crazy coincidence. It was actually in great shape, besides the seat. And, while I loved Jen’s refinishing, I loved not having to do it, too. Ours had a cane seat that had been busted and covered in black pleather. (I didn’t even get a photo before tearing off the pleather.)

I think $50 was a great deal on that chair! I’ve been on the hunt for one since seeing the Jen’s, but haven’t scored one yet.

Great find! I love my old banker’s chair. Mine is actually a law-student’s chair from UVA. But there’s something very sturdy feeling about them, right?
I’m jealous of your chair with no arms! I plan on finding one without arms one day I’ll give my armed one to Rob so I can sit crosslegged in peace in front of my computer. ๐

aww, thanks! {blush}
your chair looks so great – it’s totally meant to go with that desk. oddly, i’m now refinishing a desk that looks almost exactly like yours, so i think we’ll have twin offices now. ๐

holy crap, it does look like it’s supposed to go together! The pair is very 1940’s A-Christmas-Story-teachers-school-desk! I feel like if you open the top drawer, we’ll find an handfull of fangs, chettering teeth and paper airplanes ๐
