Here’s my newest sewing project – a lunch bag. I even took the picture directly upon arrival home from work, on the first day I took it to work. Still in my work clothes. I wanted you to get the total picture of how cool I look when I carry this baby.
Oh yeah. I love it.
This is a project from Sewing Green by Betz White.
I love the fabric I used. It was something I picked up while we were in Galena. And, there’s still some leftover, so now I have to figure out what to do with it. I was actually able to make this lunch bag with all materials I had on hand (I had to substitute grosgrain ribbon for the bias tape because I didn’t have the correct size, but that worked just fine.)
I used fabric on hand, PUL fabric (leftover from Ryan’s Bears bags), fusible fleece, grosgrain ribbon and velcro. I was pretty darn proud of myself that I had everything on hand. I may have sang a song.
It only took about an hour start to finish, which includes cutting. And, if you are anything like me, cutting takes the most time. Oh, that’s just me? I’m a terrible cutter.
All my coworkers even commented on it. Which made me smile. I was really modest when they told me how wonderful it was. I said, “I KNOW! It’s awesome!”
Have I mentioned that modesty is not one of my best qualities. Or really, modesty is not a quality of mine. At all.
It’s large enough to fit a storage container, a banana and a granola bar. Hypothetically. Since I usually bring leftovers for lunch, fitting these items is a necessity.
What do you think? And tell me, do you brown (or multi-color) bag your lunch, too?

Love it! Everyone needs something stylish to bring your lunch in and I have actually never thought about making my own. Another project to add to the list because yours is just so cute!

I stay home so I don’t take a lunch, but I might just have to make one for taking our lunch to the park. Very cute, and I really like the paisley, I’m always a sucker for anything paisley.

I love it, you look cute holding it and everything ๐

That is so adorable! It would totally make me excited to “brown bag” my lunch every single day!

I love you all. *Kisses*
@Jordan: I throw this baby in my large purse/tote. I still think you need one of these. =)
@Shannon: Target and an Easy Mac? Count me in.
@Elizabeth: I don’t know the color. It was just a red outdoor paint that I picked up at Menards. (I’m not good with paint colors.) But, I do love myself my red doors. Best decision. Esp. since some family and friends didn’t think it would look good.
@LizzieBeth: The welcome is a vinyl decal. I love this! And, I love your LL Bean bag. I have a big one that I use for my sewing machine. =)
@Meg: Thanks for stopping by. =)
@Erin: This IS totally like the first-day pics. My mom always took it outside the front door.I should pull some of those out and do a montage.
@Kristen: I think it would be perfectly doable for a beginner sewer (since I”m pretty much a beginner). The cutting wasn’t hard, I just have a tough time getting exact measurements.
@Kristi: I’m already thinking of seasonal lunch bags. Overkill?
@Emily: I (heart) you. Too kind.
@Wendy: MAKE ONE!

First off, I love love LOVE the “Welcome” on your door! Is that a sticker, or is it painted??
Secondly that bag is super adorable, and sounds so much bigger then it looks! Love the fabric- how fun!
I use an LL Bean bag that my neice bought me for christmas years ago. It’s pink and purple, and you can see it here

It turned out so cute. My mom actually made me a lunch bag a few years ago that I used when I taught. Brown bag lunches are just more fun when you are taking them from a fun bag!! I predict that you will soon be making more to go with the season or your outfit.

Weird! I woke up this very morning thinking – I wonder if you can make your own lunch bag? Mine is boring, and I want something pretty. Wow, that is some freaky mind reading stuff you’re practicing. ๐ Love your bag, especially that fabric. ๐
Cindy @The Flipping Couple says
Love it!! I’m a brown-bagger as well. Except I’m not even classy enough to use a brown bag. I usually throw everything into a Target bag. I need me an adorable lunch bag like yours!!
Elizabeth says
What color is your front door?? Do you love it? I need a new color for mine and I think I really like yours! Thank you! By the way, I really like your lunch bag. ๐
Shannon says
Very cute! I usually drive the 10 minutes home for lunch for a lean cuisine and some daytime judge shows. Orrrr spend my lunch hour at the Target across the street and grab an Easy Mac. Either way makes me happy.
Jordan says
Being a professional grad student and all, my lunch usually consists of throwing a tupperware (filled with leftovers) in my bookbag. And then I throw an orange or something in my bookbag too, rolling around against books and my laptop. It’s not fancy, but this way I don’t have to carry anything extra.
Your bag is cute, though!
