My friend, Amanda at Serenity Now, is hosting a “Show me the Progress” blog party today. Show me the progress? Well, if that title doesn’t speak to me, I don’t know what would. Our home is a continual work-in-progress. (Check out the down-low of all our befores and afters here.) And, I was actually planning to post about our bedroom update today and ask for opinions anyhow. So, I guess it’s perfect timing.
There is definitely progress being made in the bedroom. (And, get your mind outta the gutter.) Our master bedroom is undergoing yet another bedding swap.
If you are keeping count, this is the fourth bedding swap in two years (although I really consider it one of several partial swaps, because the quilt, and possibly some of the throw pillows, will stay).
YIKES! The bedroom has come a long way from here.
To refresh your memory, here’s what it looked like most recently.
I love the quilt. I love the colors. But, I’m not thrilled with the pillows, particularly the pillows I carried over from the last bedding.
Plus, I realized that I’m attracted to rooms with white bedding. And the quilt was not nearly warm enough for Madam Cold-All-The-Time. And, I didn’t love all of the pillows anyhow. So, I went on a search for a down comforter. I don’t “do” duvets, bad past experiences. So, I decided to use a white comforter and our current chocolate quilt to get a new look.
I found the down comforter at Tuesday Morning on clearance. It’s warm, comfortable and Ryan-approved. We really like it. And, it was so inexpensive, I couldn’t NOT buy it.
Now, I’m having trouble putting it all together. So, I figured, since you all are here anyway, you can weigh in. I need your help.
Here are rooms that I like and that led me to realize that a white comforter is what I wanted in the room. I also added my notes about how the bed was made and what pillows were used.
(Quilt underneath, tucked with the down comforter on top.)
(Quilt folded over the end of the bed. Only one contrasting pillow.)
(Quilt folded simple with contrasting pillows)
(Folded over the end of the bed with a variety of fun, patterned pillows)
(Simple fold with only a few contrasting pillows)
I think I like this one the best:
And, with that – here are the questions I need you to answer..
Note: I have not purchased any pillows, and I would prefer to avoid buying anything major (and I know pillows can be pricy). However, I am open to making pillows, which would mean I could buy inexpensive fabric or use what I have.
QUESTION 1: Which quilt-comforter combo do you prefer?
B. Comforter under, quilt folded in half on top
C. Comforter under, quilt folded narrowly
D. SOMETHING ELSE, ENTIRELY!
QUESTION 2: What should I do about pillows?
This is open-ended. Do I need two more king-sized pillows in white or another color? Do you like the three throw pillows or one throw pillow above? Should I make more pillows?
I also have these small fabric pieces that are the perfect size for 12 inch throw pillows, so keep this in mind. Plus, I have the old pillows. I can use the fabrics from the blue silk material for pillows.
Okay, friends. I’m counting on you.
I’m all verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves.
And, go check out more progress at Serenity Now
