Hand-me-down kids

We often joke that everything in our house was a hand-me-down. You may think we’re kidding, but we’re really not.

And, we’re not embarrassed. Just really thankful.
So, I thought it would be humorous to take an inventory of things that were hand-me-downs.

Table and chairs and the lovely grandfather clock were my parents’. My favorite rug of all time was Ryan’s parents’.The pretty corner hutch (that may or may not be painted in the near future) is from my parents.

The hutch was part of the set from my parents.
The Living Room:

The couch, chair, ottoman, run and end table are all from Ryan’s parents. (I know, we are spoiled.)
The TV chest was from my parents… and also made by my dad. The photo is pretty terrible, but it’s a great piece of furniture.
And, here’s a close-up of the lovely end table. It’s adorable.

The Office:
The sofa sleeper and rug were both given to us from Ryan’s parents.
The shelves were also from Ryan’s parents… and so were the wreaths.

And, the pretty little lamp was given to us from Ryan’s aunt
The Kitchen:
Darn… I don’t have a picture of the lovely round rug we received from Ryan’s parents. (You would think they are going rug-less… but they aren’t.)
Upstairs:
This charming mirror is from my parents.
And, the carpet. It’s also a hand-me-down from Ryan’s parents. Haha… not many people can say their carpet is hand-me-down. But, it is dang nice carpeting. We’ve gotten lots of compliments on this carpet. It’s always fun to see people’s reaction when we tell them where it’s from.

The umbrella was from my aunt and uncle, 2 of the chairs were from my grandpa and two were from Ryan’s parents.

So, do you believe us now? I’m sure we’ve missed something… but we have been very blessed to be given so many wonderful things.

What about you? Are you hand-me-down kids?

  1. Lol, I’ve always referred to us as the hand-me-down-kids. We finally got our own bedroom furniture, but before that everything was handed down. Our living room – total hand me down. Kitchen and Dining Room? Check. Guest bedrooms furniture AND mattresses? Check. But with slipcovers and paint, you’d never know!

  2. Oh, and I’m so jealous of your carpet – I can’t believe that’s a hand-me-down. What fabulous in-laws you have. Want to trade? All I get from mine is unsolicited advice.

  3. I am not…actually I buy thing for my house and hand them down to my SIL or mom. It works the opposite

  4. LOVE IT! And I love hand me downs!

  5. I love hand me down stuff! There’s always a story to go with it! I LOVE the grandfather clock! I want one so bad but they’re sooo expensive!

  6. I have a lot of hand-me-downs. I love them as they remind me of the person who gave them to me. Most of my house is filled with furniture from my grandma, with a few new things thrown in here and there.

  7. We are definitely hand-me-down-kids. Everything is hand-me-down. Well, not entirely. I bought furniture from a family friend so I guess they don’t really count? They only charged me $80 for a couch, chair, & ottoman! I’ll be posting about our living room and the other changes we’re making in there soon. I so appreciate the hand-me-downs, but I’m excited about saving up for pieces of our OWN that we get to pick out together! ;o)

  8. Sweet! It is awesome that the outdoor chairs are pretty much the same shape/style, although I know you painted them.

  9. Haha! I love this post! We are the same way! I need to do a post of all our hand-me-down stuff. I’ll work on that. :-)

  10. WE are totally hand-me-down kids. i love that yall made yall hand-me-down’s your OWN though… we havent been that adventurous. :-/

  11. Yay for that! A lot of our stuff are thrifty finds….so they’re hand me downs from strangers =)

I like to think if hand me down pieces could talk, just imagine the stories!

  12. Love the outdoor set and even sweeter how it all came together.
