If you wanna feel good about yourself…
send out Christmas cards.
This is the first year that we have been married and thus, the first year we’ve sent out Christmas cards. After they went in the mail (all 100 of them), cards and letters started pouring in. Turns out, it is pretty fun to get Christmas cards. And, it also turns out – you are more likely to get Christmas cards if you send them.
Duh!
But, in actuality – I’m sure that we would have gotten some Christmas cards if we hadn’t sent them. But, we received more than 50 cards this year!!
Who knew we had that many friends?
Not me. Not Ryan. Not Lola nor Franco.
But, it is sure good for our egos to get so many cards. I ripped those suckers open like there was no tomorrow.
Do you remember when you were little and ripped right past the cards to get to the gift? Turns out, cards are pretty cool too! There were so many fun and creative cards, pretty and sentimental cards, whimsical and religious cards. Every one brought us a little more joy.
Now, they are adorning our doorway in the living and dining rooms. We started with one ribbon, and it has grown to 6 ribbons.
What kind of cards did we receive?
There were snowmen and snowflakes, winter and beaches, Harley’s and nativities, Mickey and Santa, trees and bears and penguins and deer (from Ryan’s boss at John Deere). There were 15 photos of cute kids and 21 photos and drawings of dogs (5 of which were pugs). The cards are such eye candy, it’s going to be painful to take them down. I love looking at them. Franco and Lola even received their own cards from their grandma and grandpa.
And, now… the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Ryan and I (along with Franco and Lola) have chosen our favorite holiday card from the 2008 season. We loved them all so much, but felt it was necessary to honor one with an award.
The voting was impartial and based on numerous factors, including:
– Creativity
– Uniqueness
– Use of humor
– Memorability
– and anything else that crossed our minds at the moment.
The winners are…..
Rob & Carrie
who stole our hearts with…
a great looking card featuring a plethora of fun photos of the couple. But, what put us over the edge was the note from the dog, Bruce, inside. Bruce wrote gems like, “Most of time I sleep. Sleep good.” Sleep good, indeed.

Announcer: And what do we have for them?
The winners will receive the highly-coveted, often-replicated, never-duplicated certificate of achievement. Only one of these are given out annually. As the first winner, you have a one-of-a-kind piece of printer paper. They look beautiful on fridges or in frames…
In addition, the winners will receive a commemorative mailbox ornament announcing their award to all who look at their tree every Christmas.
Congrats to Rob & Carrie and thanks for all the entries (even though you didn’t know you were entering).
