So, I love calzones. They have several pizza places within a two-minute drive from us that make killer calzones.
Unfortunately, they are about $9.00 apiece.
That’s steep when you are on a budget. So, I decided to make them. I didn’t realize how EASY they are.
These will definitely become a staple in our house, they were so yum. And, unlike the pizza joints, they don’t charge you extra for more toppings.
What I used:
-1 can of refrigerated pizza crust (in the section with the Pillsbury biscuits – didn’t know these existed)
-1 can of traditional spaghetti sauce
-Leftover ground beef (about 1/4 pound)
-Lots of mozzerrella cheese, shredded
-Mushrooms, chopped
-Onions, chopped
-Green, red and yellow peppers, chopped
-White onions, chopped
-Olives, sliced
Easy-peasy instructions
1. Unroll the pizza crust into a large rectangle on the greased cookie sheet and slice in half with a knife.
2. Chop all ingredients.
3. Put a little (I know, so descriptive) sauce in each dough, about 1/2 inch from every side.
4. Put them on a sprayed cookie sheet and chop all ingredients and put them on top of the sauce.
5. Put cheese to your liking on top of other ingredients.
6. Fold over the dough to make the calzone. Take a fork and press along the edges to “seal” it.
7. I cooked it at 400 degrees for about 17 minutes. This is what they looked like when they came out:
Okay… they don’t look gourmet. I put a lot of ingredients in and didn’t seal it well enough. But, oh my goodness, it was yummy. They definitely filled my craving for calzones without the price tag. We ate them with salads and extra sauce on the side.
